Boehner Posts Easy Victory in Ohio GOP Primary
WSJ ^ | 5-6-2014 | Reid J. Epstein

House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) coasted to a primary election victory Tuesday over tea party-aligned challenger J.D. Winteregg and two other opponents.

The Associated Press declared Mr. Boehner the primary victor with about 8,600 votes cast — about 6% of precincts reporting.

Mr. Winteregg, a high school teacher who raised less than $50,000, represented Mr. Boehner’s most robust primary challenge in years, prompting the speaker to air television ads for himself. Mr. Winteregg’s campaign was aided by $350,000 in third-party spending, but it was hardly enough to give the speaker a scare.

Democrats Tom Poetter and Matthew Guyette are competing for nomination to face Mr. Boehner in the November general election.

Yep, I’ve noticed that over the years, the amount of “moderate” posters has increased on this site. What a shame.

Most arrived on FR in early 2000 as Bush supporters. Some of us here before then remember Freepers who were afterward forced out because they wouldn't drink the Bush Kool Aide. Bush like his dad was a NWO Globalist and a United States Chamber of Commerce Shill of which the Bush Family had very close ties. GW Bush has the unprecedented distinction though of being a GOP POTUS with a two house majority that did the DEM's work for them. We have Obama thanks mainly to the GOP House and Senate and Obama has expanded powers thanks to them as well.

Between Bush and his buddy Rove supporting "Long Time Family Friend"'s AKA RINO's and if they lost in the primaries then abandoning the winning Conservatives, the GOP-E Take Over by the likes of John Boehner which started in 1996 was completed. It was Boehner who was one of the ones behind the GOP-E Takeover of the GOP including forcing Newt out. Look up Bill Paxon former Congressman from NY and his ties to it as well.

Make no mistake about it the GOP-E which Rove is organizing funding for is not a friend of Conservatism. Worse the Conservatives do not have a serious Cable TV News Network to get out their message and no FOX News in not in any way shape of form pro-Conservative.

These were not serious challengers (and there were THREE of them, including one who dropped out but who’s named stayed on the ballot). If you expected Boner to lose or for it to even be close then you were not realistically following the race.

To have a realistic chance at beating him what was needed was ONE, WELL FUNDED challenger, not a trio of nobodies.

I agree most of your posting, with the exception of what you stated above.

Dubya only had a GOP House and Senate his first six years. The last two years of his term, all of Congress was controlled by the Rats and his hands were essentially tied behind his back.

Don’t misunderstand me; I couldn’t stand 43’s squishy policies (like pushing shamnesty in 2006-07). However, he did respect our military personnel and didn’t take crap off of foreign nations that threatened the US.

I agree about the foreign relations. Foreign leaders knew what they were getting with him. Putin would never try this stuff under Bush. At least that is my fond memory of the time.

There is a radio host in Denver - Mike Rosen - who insists “party trumps person.” That you have to vote for the most likely Republican to win regardless if they really support Republican values. Because they will do less harm than a Democrat.

But... this household has decided no more. We will spend prayerful consideration of candidates and vote for the candidate who most represents the Constitution and would protect our freedoms.

Voting for the “Republican” has burned us for far too long.

He didn't even handle that part right. Sorry. But his Iraq policy stunk to high heavens and was U.N. driven. It didn't take a military strategist to understand that by the third night we were into a war fought by P.C. rules with end agenda as Nation Building an issue he campaigned against. OH BTW Bagdad Bob was not funny. Why wasn't it? Because orders were given to leave infrastructure intact. Wrong!, Wrong!, Wrong! Bridges, Utilities, and Communications are all military targets and should be hit first after air bases and missile systems etc.

You go to war for unconditional victory ASAP at minimal cost in lives and money to your own nation not the enemies. Go in, destroy quickly to point of threat elimination and unconditional surrender or otherwise unconditional destruction of the enemy nation. By night two Bagdad BOB's ability to go on air in any capacity should have been eliminated.

His downfall was he became obsessed with TRADE even dragging the W.O.T. into trying to give his beloved China MFNTS. BTW China did what to us his first few weeks as POTUS? And where was Uncle Prescott?

As for our military? He might have respected them but that respect did not turn into HELP for them in the way of much needed increases in Active Duty End Troop Strengths. He missed the Golden Opportunity to rebuild a military both his dad, Clinton, along with a two house GOP Majority helped to defund and decrease to a point of 4-5 deployments per almost unending enlistment obligations.

9/11 was the golden chance to say hey our nations defenses were down due to cuts. WE WERE DEPENDENT UPON FOREIGN MILITARU AID after that attack. What did he doo about that? NOTHING! He took us to war with a peace time military level ad never increased or rather asked for the needed significant increase in Active Duty Military End Troop Strengths. But perhaps the most revealing about his lack of military policies was the selection of two Sec of Defense neither of which should have ever gotten the job.

If Bush loved our military then why were our troops facing Court Martials based on the accusations of the enemies? Remember the Court Martials? Remember what Rummy did? neither do I because he did nothing. Most forget that Rummy was one of the reasons the military began the decline known as The Hollow Carter Military.

You’re confused. We rebuilt Germany, we rebuilt Japan, we rebuilt South Korea so why wouldn’t we rebuild Iraq?

If you weren’t there you have a grossly myopic view of the Iraq war due to the fact nearly all of the Iraqi MSM contributors were Sunnis, aligned with the Sunni insurgents. Additionally, the MSM only sent their insurgents, excuse me, journalists into violent Sunni areas.

You, like most, are suffering Jihadi-vision and the (minority) Sunni version of the Iraq war. Both north and south of Bagdad the security situation was much different. My convoys would frequently be mobbed by cheering Shia in MND-CS. And they did not like the Mahdi (Iranians). We drove in unarmored vehicles. There were no casualties until the Iranians, Sunni insurgents and FSB-agents showed up in the south.

There is huge divide between those who believe that just a few more Republicans and we’ll muddle through, and those who understand that this is a war, and the GOP E is on the wrong side.

Three words. Culture, Unconditional Surrender. Actually we occupied them to our military advantage including strategic bases we still use today. The Islamic culture does not understand the word surrender and you can be we will be in yet another U.S. Iraq War when the next Radical Cleric takes over. Oh and they'll have a shinny new trained and equipped military too.

Let me be clear on this. I don't care about their internal Civil Wars. They've fought tribal warfare ever since so let them have at it and keep themselves weakened howaboutit. We should have left Iran and Iraq to fight it out. They both were happy and too busy to bother others.

The U.S. militaries job is not to defend {aka police} another nations internal issues. The number one job of the United States Military is to defend the United States Of America and to destroy any and all foreign enemy who with to do her harm here and abroad. A concept lost in Political Correctness and to a great extent the Geneva Convention. Had previous wars up to and including WW2 been fought by todays rules we would have lost. By the 1950's Marxist Idealist making enemies misunderstood victims had infiltrated congress by early 1960's The White House and The Military higher ups itself.

a lot of the problem I believe is the multitude of candidates in the primary. the known quantity often does well as the challengers fight amongst themselves.
That and moderate republicans consider having their guy, Boner, an honor to be Speaker.

You’re confused. We rebuilt Germany, we rebuilt Japan...

the last war we fought to the finish was WW 2

this is in no way WW 2. we haven't fought a war to win since then.

I do believe that there was WMDs in Iraq...and they left across the border to Syria....and all of this was irrelevant to Osama Bin Laden who was in Afghanistan and Pakistan and Bush gave up on.....

we should have been bombing Afghanistan and Pakistan and also the two nations that allowed Al Qaeda to run their training camps there....Egypt and Saudi Arabia. but those were Bush family buddies and GW had to finish his daddy's unfinished war....

Foley was beaten in a general election, not a primary. It’s not uncommon to defeat speakers in the general election, since they often take positions on national issues that directly oppose local positions.

His opponent Winteregg looked like he was about 25 years old. Freeper Eric Gurr never got funding.

And Boehner’s general election opponent is a classic, progressive liberal democrat weeping over the children not getting ENOUGH food stamps.

You understand what many do not. You can not win a limited war fighting by another mans rules. I'm not anti-war. But I'm not for sending troops to die in wars when neither congress nor POTUS intend to let the military do it's job & have the commitment to win an unconditional surrender or elimination of threat ASAP.

There was not one Iraqi hijacker on 911. But there sure were plenty of others including Sauds. A smart political move on the part of the GOP two house majority and GW Bush would have been to immediately open Alaska's oil fields up and build additional pipelines and REFINEREIES. Another immediate policy should have been placing our defense supplies back to Made in USA. We now lack the capacity to even smelt our own lead.

Saddam was an issue but a good week long airstrikes on key infrastructure putting Iraqs infrastructure back a hundred years and a price on his head would have resolved it. Iraq and Yemen in smoldering ruins would have sent a clear message to Iran and other nations.

Osama Bin Laden was why we needed a top notch Intelligence & infiltration program ran solely by the military in the Middle East trained to take out targets of opportunity when they start becoming serious threats but before they cause trouble. We can thank Gerald Ford for stopping that.

Nothing is going to be fixed at the ballot box and people need to realize that. There are way too many voters who go into the booth ‘uneducated’. Most people do not live and breathe politics like FR members.

And most of them don't know it survives only because of donations so it doesn't have to kowtow to some progressive rich companies or to some politically correct ideas to keep from have its money shut off.

So, all freepers get the opportunity to join in the conversation, they actually get to POST articles to discuss, and they can talk their small government ideas 24/7/365.

They love it.

(and then they forget to donate.)
