15 They won’t. The UMC Leadership, the ELCA, the Episcopal Church leadership and the Prebyterian Leadership are in bed with these people because they really believe it. The leadership has become a “post-Christian” church. Only the Orthodox Churches, the Catholic Church, and the Evangelicals, with a few smaller Protestant Denominations any longer follow the Bible. Throw in the Mormons and Orthodox Judaism and you have the only bastions for Judaeo-Christian morality left in America.

A Fundamentalist cartoon portraying Modernism as the descent from Christianity to atheism, first published in 1922 and then used in Seven Questions in Dispute by William Jennings Bryan.

“In a brief historical analysis, Grudem demonstrates that denominations move through ‘a predictable sequence’ of theological liberalism. First, biblical inerrancy is abandoned. Then, in turn, the denomination endorses the ordination of women, rejects biblical teaching on male leadership in marriage, sidelines pastors who are opposed to the ordination of women, approves homosexual conduct as morally valid in at least some cases, ordains homosexuals, and elects homosexuals to ‘high leadership positions in the denomination.’" --- Albert Mohler Jr., 9th president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY (1993 – current).

Frightening not only from a salvation and morals perspective.

You want to view a society devoid of Judaeo-Christian morality?

Look at Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Afghanistan, etc. They produce nothing but human misery.

The majority of my friends who left my UMC went to a church that does almost no outreach.

I'm coming to the conclusion that churches have no business in outreach - they are the incubator for new and growing Christians to fellowship together and sharpen each other as they worship and hear the Word of God. It falls on these maturing Christians to go out into the lost and dying world with the Good News as they live among and interact with unbelievers. As people respond, they are brought into the fellowship as appropriate.

If any here disagree, please show me from Scripture where the Church as an official organization is tasked with reaching the world.

41 ... Personally, I hold out hope for the reunification of the major streams of Christianity: Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Reformed and Evangelical. It is more productive to me to work towards the unity Christ desired of us by researching the actual theology than it is to blindly defend the tradition I "belong" to and cast suspicion on other believers.

Good to see your discussions on this thread. I share your outlook on the reunification of Christianity. Plenty of sheep and goats can be found in all of the denominations.

Christians will send missionaries to Godless heathen Hellholes to preach to the lost but they won’t stay in a local church to try and save it.

I tried very hard to "save" a Methodist church at which I was a trustee. I got the treatment reserved for the Tea Party by the IRS, including nearly being run off the road in a vehicle, having a list of sins mailed to me by the pastor with mine underlined, having all my projects taken down or discontinued, etc etc. I was kind and fact-based in my discussions with people. They were unkind and defamatory towards me and my reputation because I respectfully disagreed that the church should bless gay unions and promote gays being pastors, and wanted the matter to be discussed, not dictated. The gossip was continued on to my subsequent pastors in another state after I moved. Eventually, I simply had to leave, after the lying, closeted pastor in my last UMC church told my teenager that it is ok to have sex outside marriage. I could not raise children in churches within a Conference with no appropriate sexual boundaries.

Another big schism coming? Or do Methodists even care that much?

re your question of whether to have a Methodist archbishop — in the next town over from me, a very old, historic town, there were once two Methodist churches within twenty yards of each other. One was for the Union, and the other for the Confederacy. So I think if there is to be a Methodist Archbishop, the split should happen at the same time. There are some ideas that are simply incompatible.

By the way, the former Confederate Methodist church is now an office building with a rather imposing front — big columns on an otherwise pretty ordinary building. Kind of metaphoric.

Whenever I see a rainbow, I thank the Lord for offering such a reminder that we will not be destroyed by another great flood. Then I try to figure out his next methodology of the destruction of the human race.....

I suggest that the rainbow's current, co-opted symbolism might be a clue.

You can be sure that any church group/denomination which drops the biblical requirement for male-only ordination has removed the bottom from the pit. It’s a certainty.

Must wholeheartedly agree; and I'm a woman.

I see roles for women with a theologically-sound pastoral education in counseling or teaching, and even as Board members; but not as the full pastor of a congregation.

Not sure I understand your post; but it you are saying that the Book of Judges should be our guide, that was about a time well before Christ came to set things straight. And to me, it represents all that is still wrong with today’s society: God gave Moses the Commandments so the people would know how to act. But the people demanded kings and judges, because they just couldn’t keep it simple and behave the way God wanted.

They tend to send out water engineers or inoculation experts, and then they call that mission work.

Why don't they just join the Peace Corps?
