re: I’m curious as to why the union is against common core...why is the socialists/communist/marxist union head Lewis against it? Does anyone know?
I expect that the testing results are not going to be be pretty, and as always, teachers will be blamed. I think that some teachers are now realizing that they have been given a very difficult task in teaching with the Common Core curriculum. While I don’t think that everything is objectionable with Common Core, much is. Subjects are now introduced at an earlier stage when there is no foundation or an inadequate foundation for understanding. I have noticed that math instruction, for example is often being made far more complicated than it has to be, but students are expected to follow the complicated procedures. If they do not follow the prescribed methods, they are marked wrong. While the very smart kids may be able to easily pick up on the convoluted processes to do some of the math problems, certainly many students will struggle with understanding.
The acrobatics in logic evident throughout the whole report are stunning. Incredibly, the SPLC also tries to imply that because a higher proportion of minorities go to government school than whites, criticism of Common Core must be at least partly due to racism. The half-baked insinuations are hardly new. In fact, SPLC spokesman Mark Potok was recently ridiculed on national television after suggesting that more than half of whites had anti-black attitudes.
According to the US Census Bureau 55% of public school students are "white, non-Hispanic". So obviously Common Core is a racist attack designed to even further dumb down whites in America.
Is that correct. The best I can tell there is a bill proposed to throw CC in the dumpster, but it has not been passed. I hope you're right and I'm wrong.
Make sure they’re not doing what most states that have ‘dumped’ common core are doing. They’re using the same standards and just relabeling them to avoid the common core critics. Bait and switch.
well, perhaps I’m wrong........ my source is my DIL in NC and she might have overstated the facts
