Mitt Romney: Raise the minimum wage (Go away Tom Dewey!!)
politico.com ^ | 5/9/14 | Jonathan Topaz

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on Thursday morning said he supports an increase in the minimum wage, breaking with many Republicans who have stood against it.

“I, for instance, as you know, part company with many of the conservatives in my party on the issue of the minimum wage. I think we ought to raise it,” the 2012 Republican presidential nominee said. “Because frankly, our party is all about more jobs and better pay.”

Romney’s comments come after Senate Republicans rejected a vote on a Senate bill that would have increased the minimum wage to $10.10. Recently, though, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, both of whom also ran for the Republican nomination in 2012, said they supported some increase in the minimum wage.

In a wide-ranging interview Thursday on “Morning Joe,” Romney again reiterated that he isn’t running for president, mentioned some of his favorite potential GOP presidential candidates in 2016 and criticized Hillary Clinton’s record as secretary of State.

If you own a small business, bend over. The Pubbies are in full scale cave mode as polls continue to indicate 70%+ of LIV’s are having a slobbering love affair with this idea.

Yup. And you have to wait for congress to give themselves a raise before they give you one.

Is there an issue where he doesn’t part ways with conservatism?

And both Santorum and Romney know better, but they will say or do whatever they believe they must to win. Men like that should be no where near the levers of power.

Men who don’t really believe what they say will sign tax increases after shouting “read my lips, no new taxes” a thousand times. They will say “if you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan” while crossing their fingers behind their back. They will get BJ’s and then wag their finger at America and swear “I didn’t have sexual relations with that woman.” And they will promise America that “Islam is a religion of peace” while creating a police state to protect us from a segment of Islamists.

We need a principled conservative leader for once!

My main disappointment with Romney losing is that what we got was even worse.

“Is there an issue where he doesn’t part ways with conservatism?”

No, because he’s never been one. And didn’t pretend to be one very well, just enough to get the nomination. He’s a George Bush Sr. clone.

The fact that he was a liberal pretending to be “severely conservative” probably turned off more voters

Acutally, while I agree Mitt knows better - I think Santorum really is dumb enough to perhaps believe it. And I know they will both say whatever. Santorum is a niche politician - trying to fake legitimacy by niching his way through Iowa - and he knows theres a niche of phony conservatives who will fall for his populist bullsh-t.

There are reasons to agree with Mitt Romney on this one:

1. They are going to do it anyway.

2. It takes it away as a campaign issue along with the endless media dwelling on it.

3. The layoffs and lost job openings will all fall on Obama’s watch.

4. It is about the only bullet the dems have to get people to the polls. Take it away from them.

In sum, all of the above advances the loss of democrats at the polls in November. I would even go them on better and say that we prefer it be $10.50 and not $10.10. That even takes away a possible Obama talking point that the Republicans caved in. (He’s the one who caved to us.)

I believe you are right.

Bush. Romney. All of the yayhoos are lining up for next time.

The GOP needs someone, who will change the GOP into a party for American jobs.

Nobody is currently out there, who fits that bill.

Not a single person.

Just giving cover for Jeb Bush and Chris Christie to push a massive increase in the minimum wage.

Same thing goes for ending the Bengazi investigation, cutting the military, social issues, immigration, second amendment rights, and keeping around Obamacare.

Wages should be an agreement between the employer and employee. Gov’t at any level shouldn’t be involved.

Who out there is clamoring for Mitt Romney? Shouting, let's hear from Mitt. What does Mitt think?

No one.

Mitt, your way, way past your due date.

I can't believe I have to say this to a guy, who's made his money in the market. Minimum wages cost jobs, cost the worst off in society, their first step on the ladder to employment. Specifically, an increase in the minimum wage act should be title "Increase Black Teenage Unemployment Even More Act". I guess Romney, besides being a political moron,is an ecconomic moron and really doesn't care about the 47%.

Mitt, go away, you're not helping.

The minimum wage should be raised, but it has to be with a condition that jobs must go to qualified US citizens. No more hiring non-citizens, except maybe in regulated farming situations. In spite of the hype, there are plenty of qualified US citizens. With that condition, it would put the dems on the spot and they'd have to agree to something that helps stop the invasion of the US.

Conservatives supported taxes not being raised on the wealthy. It's time for those "conservatives" to get some of that money they've saved to less financially endowed US citizens.

He understands. He just wants applause from the “smart set”. I’m glad I wrote in “Grover Cleveland” in 2012 rather than voting for this intellectually dishonest, moral cretin.

Don’t go that far.... There is a flip side to minimum wages, do you think FORD paid his workers at the time the unheard of wage of $5 a day because he was an idiot?

No, he did so because he realized that to sell more of his product, folks had to be able to afford to BUY his product.

Now, the current proposals on the minimum wage are mostly garbage, raising it 40% and whatnot is just silly.

However the minimum wage isn’t going away, and the idea of tying it to a COLA automatically to end this debate every few election cycles would put it to bed... Of course that won’t happen because of morons on both sides of the isle.

If this was done, the impact would be minimal and easy to plan for, would it have no impact? of course not, but it wouldn’t be the sky is falling nonsense.
