GA Sen: Karen Handel Surges to Virtual Tie in Another Poll (primary May 20th)

Georgia Secretary of State and GOP Senate candidate Karen Handel has surged to a virtual tie in another poll.

In the Rosetta Stone Communications poll conducted on May 6, moderate businessman David Perdue received 23.1%; Karen Handel 21%; Rep. Jack Kingston 15.1%; Rep. Paul Broun 8.6%; Rep Phil Gingrey 8.5%. The poll also found that 20.1% were still undecided.

Handel said that "momentum is with us" and touted a recent endorsement of the Tea Party Express, one of many endorsements she has received since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin endorsed and campaigned for her when Handel was in fifth in the polls.

The poll conducted for the Handel campaign had a margin of error of +/- 3.6 percentage points and is the fourth consecutive poll in which Handel is the only candidate that has shown momentum.

“This survey is consistent with other poll results we have seen in the last 10 days,” said John Garst, President of Rosetta Stone Communications. "Karen Handel has been gaining ground steadily since late April and is now poised to take the number one spot heading into the July 22 run-off.”

Garst also said that Kingston, who is not even within the margin of error of second place, "is just not connecting with voters" who "are not buying the routine with the station wagon and the children with holes in their clothes.”

An Insider Advantage poll last week found "establishment candidate David Perdue with 22%; Handel with 21%; Rep. Jack Kingston with 17%; Rep. Paul Broun with 14%; Rep. Phil Gingrey with 12%. That poll had 11% undecided before the May 20 primary.

Answered two of my questions by reading the full article, but I’m still not sure about the run-off system in Georgia. Go Handel!

The GOP want either Perdue or Kingston. Sarah Palin endorsed Handel. Paul Broun, unfortunately, never took off.

There is a runoff if no candidate gets 50%, so the Establishment has been working to ensure that Perdue and Kingston were the top two, so it’s a win-win. But Palin undercut them. And now Handel is #2 with a week and a half to go before the primary.

Thanks. Is there any relation between the GOPe’s Perdue and the governor of the same name?

Yes, they’re cousins or uncle and nephew or some such thing.

GOPe candidate Handel or Purdue. Won’t be much difference. Paul Broun is the ultra conservative tea party candidate. Kingston is a RINO and Gingrey is just creepy.

I’m voting for Paul Broun in the primary as is Mr. GG2 and our whole family. In the runoff I’ll vote for Handel as she has a record. Perdue who is the cousin of our former Governor does not. Any of the three is better than Saxby Chambliss a closet Democrat. Only Broun would make a real difference in DC. Its going to be business as usual more than likely. GA will send another senator to vote as the leadership tells them.

Good luck breaking into the double digits. If I were ever lucky enough to find a candidate which felt exactly like I do on every issue, he or she would be lucky to break 1%.

So true. We are not going to restore the constitutional republic through the ballot box.

Perdue is the worst imo. Another potential open borders businessman like Michael Grimm or Vance McAllister.

“Kingston’s career voting record in Congress is more than 90 percent in agreement with positions the chamber favors. He acknowledged that he disagrees with the chamber on immigration reform, for instance, but generally favors cutting taxes and regulations as a way to encourage businesses to create more jobs.”

The Chamber probably decided Kingston was the establishment candidate they could back after Perdue’s gaffe.
