Compromise on Gays Pleases No One, Scouts Are Learning
New York Times ^ | MAY 8, 2014 | KIRK JOHNSON

Posted on 05/09/2014 7:39:54 AM PDT by Second Amendment First

Pascal Tessier is a 17-year-old Eagle Scout in suburban Maryland who says scouting made him who he is today, with its lessons about morality, leadership and responsibility. And those very strengths, this openly gay high school senior said, are what compel and equip him to fight back now against Scout policies on gays that he believes are wrong.

After long, anxious debate, the Boy Scouts’ national board voted a year ago to allow openly gay youths to participate in scouting, while continuing to exclude gay leaders age 18 and over. It was promoted as a compromise intended to offer the organization time to figure out how to proceed.

Instead, it has brought the Scouts only more ire from all directions and produced a house divided.

The awkwardness of the compromise — don’t-ask-don’t-tell silence on the one hand, and a supposedly welcoming embrace on the other, with an 18th birthday dividing the two — has emboldened gay scouts like Pascal to step forward with passionate editorials and online petitions.

Conservative critics have been no less vehement. Rob Schwarzwalder, a senior vice president at the Family Research Council, a Washington-based group, said: “Judeo-Christian sexual ethics are fixed. Dislike or reject them, if you wish, but they are not malleable. How can two boys both pledge to be ‘morally straight’ when they operate out of two different moral perspectives concerning human sexuality?”

The partial ban is also proving legally problematic with two distinct classes of members treated differently.

In California, for example, state judges could be barred from involvement with the Boy Scouts under a proposed change of the rules on judicial ethics, which bar participation in groups practicing “invidious discrimination” but currently exempts “nonprofit youth organizations,” like the Scouts.

Who couldn't see this coming?

The entire Republican establishment….they always react just like the Scouts did, and then are shocked when that cigar explodes in their faces.

Why would an organization like the Scouts continue to exist when they have forfeited their core values? They no longer stand for anything, and boys can learn to pitch a tent from a lot of other sources.

Pleases no one? There is no compromise with the devil either. Never compromise, never give in, it is like being a little bit pregnant. Once one compromises on a core principle they become the message in the old joke which goes something like this: will you go to bed with me for a million dollars. Yes. OK, now that we have identified what your are, let’s negotiate the price.

As a parent and grand parent, there is something inherently evil about subjecting one’s children progeny to the potential perverted whims of leaders, or fellow scouts for that matter. Truth be told, I don’t think there are many (if any) parents out there who are even remotely open to that potential.

> this openly gay high school senio

So much for “morally straight”.

So what does “openly gay” mean anyway?

If it means he’s a practicing homosexual, then how can he possibly be “morally straight”?

Even if he were a practicing heterosexual, he still could not be “morally straight” unless he were married to the one and only girl with whom he is having sex.

He obviously was selective in the lessons he chose to learn.

There’s no compromising with these bastards....they require full surrender. The Boy Scouts have set in motion their ultimate demise. I gave up on the boy scouts years ago when they became mostly a fundraising organization.

Show me a scout who must proclaim that he is "openly gay" and I'll show you one who can't possibly obey the scout oath, especially the "morally straight" part.

Why is it that I don't feel the need to strut about and proclaim that I'm "openly heterosexual" or that I like it best in the missionary position?

The left doesn’t give up. It’s one “gimme gimme” after another. What’s next after this, oh yeah, the “transgender” crowd. That sure didn’t take long.

To the Left, morality is in the eye of the beholder. No moral absolutes, is an oxymoron of the highest order........

The Scouts obviously do not care as they keep the faggot loving liberals on their board of directors that made the decisions.

GOP pols always act like they believe that the left will stop if we just concede “this” point, whatever that point is,

instead of fully recognizing, exposing, and accusing them of their final agenda and THWARTING IT.

Of course, such a position is absurd.

Without moral absolutes, there are absolutely no morals to speak of.

After long, anxious debate, the Boy Scouts’ national board voted a year ago to allow openly gay youths to participate in scouting, while continuing to exclude gay leaders age 18 and over.

Mitt Romney supported homosexual Boy Scout leaders in 1994, took action against the Boy Scouts in his Winter Olympics, and restated his support for gay Scout leaders during the 2012 campaign.
