They’ll just wait for the big earth quake to bring the oil and gas to the surface

Un-fracking-believable.

Somebody could really create chaos if they reposted this in California as “Beverly Hills Bans Homosexual Fracking”.

It would “rustle their jimmies”.

How about they ban anything derived from oil from being imported/transported into BevHills?

They will have to retain the old method of oil exploration by "shootin' at some food".

The phrase “circle j—k” comes to mind, what with all the wildcatters trying to get mineral rights from the impoverished residents and all...

I am sure they will understand why the rest of us will unanimously vote to remove all their access to electrical power except from solar and wind, impound all their gasoline power vehicles, remove all their clothing which contains any synthetic fibers and all their food from restaurants and grocery stores.

There is no need to frack in this area.
Oil literally oozes out of the ground, and they have made it a sin to take that.

Typical Liberal “it feels good but is useless” nonsense. If Beverly Hills really wanted to do something to help the environment, they would require stores to shut off their lights earlier and force houses to get rid of unneeded lights via zoning. Have all those fancy stores and houses operate on the same wattage as a 1,600 square foot rancher. That would help the environment more than banning fracking, but we all know that these gestures are just holier-than-thou, feel-good, pat yourself on the back nonsense.

Coming up next...Residents of Marin County, while sitting in their redwood hot tubs on the redwood decks of their beautifully appointed homes formally denounce loggers as “rapists of the earth.”

There’s a context to this — for many years there was an active oil well right next to the sports field at Beverly Hills High School, leading to a series of high profile lawsuits when a pattern of cancers among former high school athletes began to develop years later. I have personal knowledge of this because of some of the people who became ill were my friends. Whatever the facts of the case — and I honestly don’t know what’s true and isn’t here — the city is jumpy around issues of energy extraction because of it.

Beverly Hills gasoline prices are over $ 1.25 more than in my area.

Just shows you that the city council does not know where their money comes from. Beverly Hills gets a big chunk of their money from oil wells they own. The big blue building next to the HS is an oil derrick (26 wells IIRC) and there are another two sets of wells on the BH golf course. Most of the deposits are shallow and the formations may not lend themselves to fracking so it may have been a safe vote.

If they really want to help, they should ban private jets.

See how popular that one is with your run of the mill - limo riding, Variety reading, low info, celebrity liberal!

LOL. If it will make them a boatload of money; they will reverse it; even in secret.

Oil drilling has for decades occurred at Beverly Hills High School, but the city council in 2011 voted to bring that to an end in 2016.

It's been about 12 years since my friend's son (he's a son of Denis Wilson of the Beach Boys) came down with Lymphoma (treatment worked). Several of his classmates at Beverly Hills High also came down with Lymphoma around the same time. They had an oil well on the school playground when he was attending school there.

Last I heard, the class-action suit against the school is in progress, and being headed up by Erin Brockovich.
