In 2012 the advantage of Mitt over Obama was that maybe Mitt could put off le deluge apres moi.

We have a Republic, not a democracy.
If our reps acted purely on the whims of the majority all would be confusion and masses of bad legislation would be the result.

Dear Mitt and progressives. Please show me where in the constitution it says I must be forced to give my money to other people?
I know WHAT the Constitution says about guns, my stuff, my speech...but nothing about paying for others, forcibly. Please show me?

Please, Mitt. Part company.

Is it any wonder he lost? With two Democrats in the race, people picked the official Democrat.
I expect the GOPe to use the same losing strategy in 2016.

When a nation’s average intelligence, education, and work ethic sinks to a level where people are no longer capable of making decisions that are in their best long term interests, then the one-person one-vote thing doesn’t work any more. I think we are getting to that point. And I have no idea what to do about it.

Even in a Republic the representatives of the people are expected to vote to reflect the will of the people who put them there.
Is that not exactly why we have elections? to have the opportunity to vote for those who will go to Washington and represent our wishes?

Even in a Republic the representatives of the people are expected to vote to reflect the will of the people who put them there. How do we know the polls aren't manipulated by liars? You can't base your decision on either lying polls or whims of the people which are controlled by media.
Majority rule can be brutal (just look at the French Revolution), especially when it is based on polls which change daily. This is why the Bill of Rights was created...to protect the minority.
Yes, we have democratic values but we don't have pure democracy. Thank God.

I didn't say it was.
I said paying attention only to majority opinion in passing legislation could be.
The minority is often right and our reps need to pay more attention to what is right than what may be a passing whim.

Im almost glad he lost.Almost...?! I'm totally glad he lost. Had he not lost, a draconian gun ban would have been shoved through the house after that school shooting with his and boner's blessing, telling everyone complaining to shut up and sit down. The only change to obama/romneycare would have been drastically increasing the fine for not buying a policy from his campaign contributors. Amnesty would have already happened.
