Tea Party Nation Backs McConnell, Declares War on Rival Conservatives

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been given a boost by Tea Party Nation after it slammed tea party activist Matt Bevin as a "horrible candidate" and endorsed the incumbent in the GOP primary in Kentucky this month.

The group’s founder, Judson Phillips, revealed his backing on its website while apparently also declaring war on two rival tea party groups, the Madison Project and the Senate Conservatives Fund.

Phillips had initially thrown his support behind McConnell last year for re-election, while saying that tea party favorite Matt Bevin was "a fake conservative."

But Phillips said that he withdrew his endorsement "after the government shutdown last year and McConnell worked against Ted Cruz," the Texas senator who was blamed for causing the crisis in his efforts to defund Obamacare.

"Today that has changed," he said on the group’s website. "Not only do I still believe Matt Bevin is a fake conservative, he is now an incredibly horrible candidate."

"One of the major strikes against Bevin is that he is backed by the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Madison Project," Phillips wrote. Any "candidate backed by these two groups should probably be ignored by conservatives...They pick candidates they want to back who have never held office before and have no record."

The Tea Party Nation boss scolded Bevin for attending a cockfighting event, and then allegedly lying about it before a TV station showed him a "gotcha" video of him in the crowd.

"Someone start sending buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken to Bevin’s campaign because like Colonel Sanders’ birds, stick a fork in him, he’s done," Phillips wrote. "Bevin is such a bad candidate that it makes it impossible not to support McConnell."

If you met Matt Bevin, you would be.

“Fraud group. Establishment hacks. You’re an idiot if you donate to them.”

No doubt if they’re for McConnell, who has undermined conservatism for years.

More of same, unfortunately. And we’ve had a lot of the same from Mitch for a number of decades.

The Tea Party Nation has, by this action, outed themselves as a big government front group.

Bevin (along with every other conservative candidate running against establishment candidates) is not a perfect candidate by any means, but if he rode down the streets of Louisville on a bicycle, nude, in broad daylight, he would still pose less of a threat to our freedoms than McConnell.

Any individual or organization who says “I will support the establishment, big government guy who has voted for trillions of dollars of debt over several decades because his opponent, though espousing limited government, went to a meeting where there was a Nazi/cockfight/space alien/take your pick” is suffering from an imbalance in logic (to say the least).

Since they have singed on with McConnell, if I see the Tea Party Nation supporting a candidate, I will in the future do a good amount of due diligence before I would consider backing that candidate.

And that’s why I post all of these stories. So we know who is on our side and who isn’t.

I could sort-of understand if they endorsed McConnell if he won the primary, but not before. They’re just trying to get in good with him, and that’s sickening.

Everyone needs to cross over and vote for boner and mcconnels rat opponents. It would be worth the sacrifice. Think about it, we would be reducing the GOPe power base inside the party

Fine..... Once McConnell has secured the GOP nomination, he might be surprised to find out just how much clout the “real” Conservatives have in Kentucky when they JOYFULLY commit political treason and help Alison Lundergan Grimes defeat his sorry, RINO a** in the General Election.
