Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been given a boost by Tea Party Nation after it slammed tea party activist Matt Bevin as a "horrible candidate" and endorsed the incumbent in the GOP primary in Kentucky this month.
The groups founder, Judson Phillips, revealed his backing on its website while apparently also declaring war on two rival tea party groups, the Madison Project and the Senate Conservatives Fund.
Phillips had initially thrown his support behind McConnell last year for re-election, while saying that tea party favorite Matt Bevin was "a fake conservative."
But Phillips said that he withdrew his endorsement "after the government shutdown last year and McConnell worked against Ted Cruz," the Texas senator who was blamed for causing the crisis in his efforts to defund Obamacare.
"Today that has changed," he said on the groups website. "Not only do I still believe Matt Bevin is a fake conservative, he is now an incredibly horrible candidate."
"One of the major strikes against Bevin is that he is backed by the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Madison Project," Phillips wrote. Any "candidate backed by these two groups should probably be ignored by conservatives...They pick candidates they want to back who have never held office before and have no record."
The Tea Party Nation boss scolded Bevin for attending a cockfighting event, and then allegedly lying about it before a TV station showed him a "gotcha" video of him in the crowd.
"Someone start sending buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken to Bevins campaign because like Colonel Sanders birds, stick a fork in him, hes done," Phillips wrote. "Bevin is such a bad candidate that it makes it impossible not to support McConnell."

One can label oneself as a TEA “Party” member, but it ain’t necessarily so. Actions speak louder than words.
Why so I feel this is the beginning of the end for Conservatism? Probably because it is. Unbelievable.
Well, those credentials are really impressive... NOT. Who is this dolt?
They’re as much “Tea party nation” as Elizabeth Warren is Cherokee nation.
So McConnell wrecks havoc on our economy by submitting to Obama’s agenda, and the biggest criticism of Bevin is this one rally he spoke at a couple months ago?
Perspective is lost in this formerly intelligent nation.
I don’t trust any national tea party groups, and I’m not a Bevin (or McConnell) fan.
And there you have it.
“Why so I feel this is the beginning of the end for Conservatism? Probably because it is. Unbelievable.”
It isn’t. Every single candidate for office on the republican side is running right. Hell, even democrats are running right. To get elected. The winds are currently blowing in that direction.
As for McConnell, if he’s defeated on either the 20th or in November, conservatism will be better off.
I sure hope you are correct my friend.
Since there is no single organized faction, anybody can come in and declare themselves “T.E.A. party”, a loose coalition of persons largely dissatisfied with the current direction of the social, economic and moral drift of that territory once known as “the United States of America”.
These faux “front” groups that pretend to represent populist objectives and goals are a most excellent way of spoofing the real conservatives and libertarians.
Sen. McConnell is not part of the resistance to the social, economic and moral drift we see all about us everywhere.
“Go along to get along” is no way to generate honesty in government. Good way to end up wealthy, though.
A REALLY clean, and closely contested, Tea Party v. Establishment contest comes next week in Nebraska on May 13: Ben Sasse vs. Osborn/Dinsdale (only because Osborn was getting his clock cleaned by Ben and McConnell and cronies butted in a desperate bid to keep Ben Sasse out of the Senate.)
Beware of infiltrators.
“Affidavits filed by more than half of the 23 candidates from Michigan’s mysterious Tea Party were notarized by the political director of the Oakland County Democratic Party, elections records show, providing more fuel for suspicions that Democrats organized the new party to hurt Republican chances in the November election.
“The party, which most of the tea party movement’s visible leaders in Michigan disavow, also is represented by a Lansing attorney with long ties to state Democrats. And the California-based petition firm hired to collect signatures to qualify the new party for the November ballot was used by Michigan Democrats for another stealth petition drive two years.
“Democrats have also been busted using a phony Tea Party candidate to split the vote for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. They have also funded professional smear campaigns against Tea Parties, impotently tried to copy them with their own “grassroots” movement, and were even caught trying to infiltrate them to discredit the cause from within.
Sasse was just endorsed by Gary Bauer and also Pat Toomey, for whatever it’s worth. He has the broadest support of any candidate, but McConnell is still trying to defeat him, FOR IF YOU DO NOT BOW DOWN TO MITCH, YOU WILL BE DESTROYED.
So the people will have take over by nominating Sasse on Tuesday. And Mitch will just have to deal with it!
We went Soviet in 2009.
Cook County went national.
Despite all the evidence, most even here are saddled with a fatal case of Normalcy Bias.
The words ‘coup’ & ‘fundamental transformation’ mean nothing to a people who are willfully ignorant of reality.
Civilizations collapse. Republics moreso.
America pretends it is somehow immune, when even Reagan warned us that freedom was only 1 generation away from extinction.
We are already 2 generations removed from the concepts of limited government and liberty being in the forefront of the American mind.
That's a plus in my book. It's about time we got citizen legislators that have never held office before. Look at what we get for electing those that have!
This guy is a Tea Party phoney.
