People are outraged at the prospect and say that this is a step backward, not forward, and they will have to wait in line in a store with food coupons.

Hmmmmm. ....sounds like COMMUNISM.

Their food coupons probably are restricted by jail punishment to the purchase of actual food.

Unlike here where the food “stamps” (ATM cards) can be used for booze, condoms, cigarettes, casinos, etc.

Oh, and of course, magnanimous Russia would like to make sure that only those living in Crimea will get access to meal tickets. Therefore, you will need to answer these questions truthfully before you get your meal ticket.

Please submit authentic references and documentation verifying each answer, or you may be audited by the friendly neighborhood self-defense watch.

1)What is your name?
2)Where do you live?
3)Who is your employer?
4)Are you Russian Orthodox or agnostic/atheist?
5)Do you own a gun? If so, how many and of what type(s)?
6)Did you support Crimea’s decision to rejoin the Russian Federation after the fascist junta coup in Kiev?
7)What is your political affiliation?
8)Are you of Russian ethnicity?
9)What is your net worth, and what was your income in 2013?

The Food ("SNAP") benefits can not be legally used to purchase those items or services, as I'm sure you well know.

"The ministry expects shortage of agricultural products due to problems with irrigation.

Imagine that, Ukraine turned off the water. Crimea is an island.

I can’t find a single story in any news source that talks about rationing in Crimea.

Where did this idea come from? Or is it more Maidan disinfo/agitprop?

On the contrary, while there are bottlenecks of some goods due to the Kerch Ferry bottleneck, the Dafes are reopening, and food prices have fallen since the takeover, after rising sharply in the leadup to the coup.

Kinda like EBT cards but you actually have to use them for food. Whose system is better? Remember Ukraine is already socialist so how bad is this for them. Putin already subsidizes their natural gas so why not make them dependent on him for food? Maybe next he will throw in free student loans, phones, subsidized or free rent, and medical care.

The Ukrainian people seem more than willing to sell out to the best deal. Now I am getting confused to whose country I am talking about.

“”The Food (”SNAP”) benefits can not be legally used to purchase those items or services,””

Correct.

Not legally.

And not all benefits are “SNAP.”

I’m aware TANF can be involved. You made a deliberately abstruse claim that food benefits can be used to purchase those items, which is false.

Crimean Tatar Muzzies would be my guess. I gather they're treated like everyone else now rather than being recognized as a unique minority that has special concessions.

Why is this bothersome? It will prevent food hording.

“Why is this bothersome? It will prevent food hording.”

Given the past experience with the Russians controlling the food supplies of the Ukrainians and other non-Russian populations to deliberately inflict millions of deaths by famine, your remark is grossly insensitive and inhuman in its indifference to the past Russian abuses.

Russia’s brutality with Ukraine is nothing new
