Assault rifles stolen from Chicago rail yard (Oh ooh)
wgntv ^ | May 9, 2014 | Tom Negovan

Armed and extremely dangerous. Some heavy weapons have fallen into the wrong hands in Chicago– and police desperately want to get them back.

Perhaps ironically, these semi-automatic rifles are very similar to what police themselves use. Thirteen of them were stolen from a train parked in Englewood– complete with their high-capacity 30-round magazines.

Special Agent Tom Ahern, ATF:“They’re high-capacity rifles. They’re very dangerous when they’re in the wrong hands.”

The Smith and Wesson M and P 15 Sport Rifle– virtually identical to the M-4 assault rifle U.S. troops use at war, police use to keep the peace; or citizens use to create chaos, in the AR-15 Bushmaster Incarnation. That’s the now-infamous weapon used in the massacre at sandy hook elementary school.

Sometime between Sunday and Tuesday, 13 of them were grabbed from a shipment of 50, from a Norfolk Southern freight container parked at this Englewood rail yard.

Community Activist Andrew Holmes: “I’m demanding that a thorough investigation be done and the security firm that’s here be removed until this case is resolved just in case this was an inside job.”

Investigators seem to feel otherwise, that the crooks had no idea what they were taking. It’s not a security firm that works here, but Norfolk Southern’s own police force, now working with Chicago police and the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms to get the guns back

They fire what’s known as a ‘NATO bullet’ essentially military caliber– 5.56 millimeter and while they don’t ship with those bullets; they do ship with magazines that carry 30 of them at a time, firing them off as fast as you can pull the trigger.

Tom Ahern “And we’re just hoping that these guns don’t get in the hands of more violent offenders that are gonna use them in crimes.”

They were just passing through on a train from Smith and Wesson’s factory in Springfield, Massachusetts to a licensed dealer in Minnesota.

What has law enforcement and politicians here so concerned is that these are exactly the kind of weapons and magazines they’re trying to keep off the streets of Chicago.

My dog's biggest fears are not the thugs on the streets, but the ones in cars with strobe lights and sirens. My dog has strongly indicated those risks are shared between species. His and mine.

Notice the author never indicates where the guns were being shipped to or who the customer is? My money is on the BLM in Nevada.

The article said they were headed to a licensed dealer in Minnesota.

re: I’m not any kind of gun expert but I’m pretty sure that “heavy weapons” are things like mortars and M.-2s

No no no. Not since the Wizards of Smart like Ted O’Baxter started calling any long gun larger than 22LR a “Heavy Weapon”.
5.56mm and .223 now qualify as (Gasp) heavy weapons.
Next on the agenda is to move the bar down to 17 caliber.
Damn, there goes my .177 pellet rifle.

I think those weapons are just as Dangerous in the “Right Hands”as they are in the wrong hands.
When in the “Right Hands”The citizenry can be killed under color of law and the Perp can get away with it.

I wish this were not the case but it is.

HOWEVER! I am impressed that the hyperbolic author actually used the correct term for the ammunition magazine. This has to be one of the first times I’ve heard an anti-gun reporter not say “clip” when referring to a magazine. This reporter would be shocked to find the cache of sunken weapons all over the nation.

Yeah, but he like too many who post on this form, does not know the difference between a bullet and a cartridge.

For those of you from Rio Linda:

A bullet is to a cartridge as flour is to bread or as cement is to concrete, etc. Multiple cartridges are known as ammunition. Multiple bullets are known as lots of bullets.

Cartridges are an assembly that consists of a shellcase, propellant powder, primer and bullet. Bullets are those little thingies that are expelled from a firearm and travel down range until they reach a target or the ground.

Yep.. So much that was reported was later said to be false. But Leftists do not care about facts.. They run with the story that fits their agenda best.

My thoughts exactly!
Not to mention there is something very fishy about this story.

All we know now is that the shipment originated in Connecticut (some sources say Taxachusetts) and were headed for a federally-licensed gun dealer in Minnesota.

The train was parked in South Side Englewood, ranked around 5th in violent crime among Chicago's 77 community areas.

Well, they just have to do is stake out all the ammo shops and when some dudes come in to purchase large quantities of rounds for these guns, voila!....theft is solved.

I am so Sherlock Holmes-ish.

The is so much technically wrong and inaccurate with this written article.
It makes absolutely no sense at all.
Clearly written as a Anti 2nd Amendment hit piece.

Any aircraft transporting any such OBJECT OF EVIL, regardless of how many passengers are aboard, should be shot down immediately, and any surviving passengers killed.

The Chicago community of Englewood (part of Obama's old 'community organizing territory) is 97.37% black and 1.06 Hispanic.

Derek Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Jennifer Hudson (singer and actress) and Chaka Khan (singer and songwriter) came from Englewood.

The place is riddled with gangs and violent crimes of all kinds.

So, just curious, did “they” just start breaking in to any old boxcar and were just “lucky” enough to get in to this one by “accident”?
