I wont deny that there have been some cases where common sense in the UK has been missing. But the tiny amount of tabloid cases are just that. Tiny.

But its always been legal to defend a British home and family, and in fact the last two govts have in fact STRENGTHENED THE LAW in FAVOUR of the HOMEOWNER.

A problem with Americans resides in the process the UK police undertake when investigating an incident, where essentially everyone involved gets temporarily arrested, hence the US belief that the Brits get arrested for defending their home, family or self.

I agree it looks odd even backward, but it isn’t, lol.

In fact the last case to make the news headlines (last year in Manchester) had a homeowner kill a burglar with a knife. That homeowner got nothing but commendation from the police for their actions and there was never any notion of charges.

In fact the burglars father publicly supported the man who killed his son (apparently a decent lad from a good family turned drug addict/junkie burglar, rather sad.)

Ok. I’m willing to stand corrected. Thanks for your detailed response. I’m glad to hear that you say self-defense is a respected right in Great Britain.

As for “cases where common sense” is missing... we have plenty of those in the US, too.
