What else can happen? Will the companies that you hate spend a bunch of money doing the research and documentation that you want? Or will they just slap a label "May Contain GMO ingredients" on everything and call it good?
Fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders (your 401K) requires them to meet the government requirements at minimal cost.
