They do on many products. Some things that don't contain peanuts contains the warning that the food may have been processed on equipment used to process peanuts, wheat, or eggs.

Yes. It makes it meaningless, and the customer can't tell whether they are at risk or not. But that's the law, and that's what they do.

Right—but my point is that if they put that warning on every product, it would be of zero use to the highly allergic.
