Denisse Rojas earned a biology degree from UC Berkeley and has set her sights on medical school. But one big obstacle stands in her way.
To practice medicine in California, doctors must obtain a license from the state, and applicants are required to provide a Social Security number as proof of identity.
Rojas, 25, does not have such a number. She is in the United States illegally, having been smuggled into the country from Mexico by her parents when she was 6 months old.
But a group of legislators wants to help her — to do for doctors, dentists, nurses, barbers, security guards and many others what they did last year for attorneys: grant those in the country illegally permission to practice their occupations. The San Francisco resident said she was able to receive financial aid from the state under California's Dream Act for her last semester of college, so it follows that the state should allow her to use her degree.
"We believe that by removing the barrier that we face in obtaining professional licensing, we will be able to reach our full potential," Rojas told lawmakers at a recent legislative hearing.
California leads the nation in efforts to integrate immigrants living here illegally into mainstream society, providing them with driver's licenses, college scholarships and protection from deportation for minor crimes.

Special legislation for a special class of people. Congress needs to pass legislation allowing citizens and legal immigrants to apply for illegal alien status in order to level the playing field.
Why doesn't she go to Mexico to practice? Lord knows they need medical professionals there.

There is, of course, no way to verify if someone was brought here at 6 months old or illegally trespassed on their own at 16 years old. Not that anyone who has zero respect for American law would fabricate their story or anything...

Nowhere in the story did I read that she has a desire to become a U.S. citizen or even apply for it for her own convenience. From that I gather she doesn’t want to be here legally, and further has no respect for our laws. Will she pick and choose which laws as a doctor she would comply with too?
The story ends with her considering moving to Canada. I’d kindly suggest she pack her bags now and head North.
This is great move by CA!!! One of the problems we have is illegal immigration has impacted only the working and blue collar Americans. The upper middle class and well to do have not been impacted. So far illegals provide them low cost nanny’s, housekeepers and lawn service. Their jobs were never on the line. Wait till these illegals offer to do professional work at 2/3 price of US professionals. When someone elses kids bleed in war, it is easy to be a patriot, but when it is their kids bleeding on the battlefield, patriotism must be thought out. When engineers, lawyers, accountants, doctors, nurses etc etc suddenly lose their jobs to illegal lower paying immigrant professionals, shit will hit the political fan. CA go make my day!!!!! Asians in CA already figure out that Affirmative Action is no longer good for them, wait till the white professionals figure out that illegal immigration is not good for them either. When liberals lose their jobs and impacted in their wallets, even big gov, sodomy loving, pot smoking liberals can be anti immigration.
So will they be granting licenses to others who have committed crimes that previously would have gotten them denied, as well? Maybe felons can now get licenses to vote and carry firearms? Maybe those convicted of fraud can now be licensed accountants? Maybe those convicted of child abuse or child sex crimes can now be licensed to run a daycare?
Soooo—she gets her medical license & opens a practice. Does this mean that she never pays any income taxes because she doesn’t have a social security number???

I guess this is the “life in the shadows” we hear about. Attending college, getting free handouts, special treatment above citizens, and occasionally attending the SOTU. Next time I visit Mexico I am burning my passport and SS card and changing my name to Juan. I will smuggle myself back in.
While they’re at it they should make it legal for “undocumented dreamers” or whatever the hell the current focus-group tested term for these invaders is to serve on the California state legislature.

Actually they can and supposedly are required to pay taxes.....even as an illegal alien. It is called an ITIN. Look it up.

Even Calif thinks their elected officials should by all means be able to bypass congress such as how Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D., CA-19) introduced a private bill granting her amnesty.I do see how this could be legal.I do not see DOJ stepping and telling Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D., CA-19)she cannot lawfully enter private legislation to bypass congress asking the state of Calif to issue legislation allowing the state to give amnesty to certain illegals.
