Chinese production and consumption of coal increased for the 13th consecutive year in 2012. China is by far the world's largest producer and consumer of coal, accounting for 46% of global coal production and 49% of global coal consumptionalmost as much as the rest of the world combined. As a manufacturing country that has large electric power requirements, China's coal consumption fuels its economic growth. China's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.7% in 2012, following an average GDP growth rate of 10% per year from 2000 to 2011.
The top 10 coal-producing countries supplied 90% of the world's coal in 2012. China produced nearly four times as much coal as the second largest producer, the United States, which had a 12% share of global production. China has accounted for 69% of the 3.2 billion ton increase in global coal production over the past 10 years.
The top 10 coal-consuming countries consumed 85% of the world's coal in 2012. Eight of the 10 largest producers are among the top 10 consumers. China is the largest coal consumer, accounting for 49% of the world's total coal. The next largest, the United States, consumed 11% of the world's total. China's coal consumption increased by more than 2.3 billion tons over the past 10 years, accounting for 83% of the global increase in coal consumption.
Coal accounts for most of China's energy consumption, and coal has maintained an approximate 70% share of Chinese consumption (on a Btu basis) since at least 1980, the starting date for EIA's global coal data. By way of comparison, coal was 18% of U.S. energy use and 28% of global energy use in 2012.
But Obama absolutely must destroy the US coal industry and coal fired power plants to save the environment and save the world from globull warming.
We have idiots in charge, or anti-Americans whose goal it is to weaken the US.
Coal mining is labor intensive. Plenty of Chinese available to go down those coal mine. Do we ever hear of cave-in?
That’s what gets me. Even if the global warming believers are right, how in the world are they going to stop the oceans rising by destroying the US economy? Excluding maybe Europe and Japan, the rest of the world is pumping out C02 like never before. Case in point? China.
Energy = Prosperity
Coal mining is also very heavy machinery intensive, at least in the US. Some pretty incredible looking machinery, built very low, but also very large and powerful.
China mines a lot of coal, but they also import significant and increasing amounts.
‘We have idiots in charge, or anti-Americans whose goal it is to weaken the US.’
Lets just remember they were elected. So, what does that say about us as a people/nation?
the particulate...blown out through the smokestacks of the CHINESE coal plants....would in itself be enough to destroy the earth’s “climate” were that POSSIBLE..
they dont care about “crean coar” just “erectlicty”
“erectlity”...does that somehow reference to willie kilintoon?
Destroying the US coal industry is just for fun, ain't it Barry?
Its says more about control of the media then the voters.
And of course the only sound you hear from the environmentalist’s side of the fence is the sound of crickets.
I don’t think he sees it as fun, but more a part of the “revenge” side of him - destroying a major source of energy in America.
Send them Algore. They will be so impressed by his enviro-religion, and we will be rid of him.
And if anyone understands the cycles of ascendancy and decadence it's the Chinese!
Recall a time when China was so paralyzed by decadence that a nation as small as Portugal could carve off a chunk and claim it for itself!
Recall a time when the decadent, but once vital, Ottoman Empire was the old sick man of Europe!
Recall a time when the mighty Roman Empire was so sick from internal rot and decay that it lacked the will to survive!
Internet source: Red China's economy has lifted "500 million people out of poverty. . . With a population of 1.3 billion . . . [no surprise then that] China remains a developing country (its per capita income is still a fraction of that in advanced countries) . . . ."
Accepting Red China as the world's grandest economy (scheduled to happen next Tuesday afternoon about tea time) is like saying the U.S. is the fantastic GDP and wealth of Washington, D.C.
Funny how you never hear the greenie weenies screaming for China to turn their coal-fired power plants off.
