Full Title: Republicans Overturn Obama Decision To Deny Honors And Benefits To The Victims Of Fort Hood Terrorist Attack
Sorry, Barack. This wasn’t “workplace violence.” It was a terrorist attack, and should be treated as such. Thanks to Republicans, it will be:
Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee will overturn one consequence of Obama’s unwillingness to recognize the terrorism of the Fort Hood attack: victims will be eligible for the Purple Heart, allowing survivors to receive better and prompter health care from the VA. More than that, every victim will get the recognition and honor due to them.
From KCEN-TV: “I applaud the Members of the committee for their leadership in approving this important piece of legislation for Fort Hood and the surrounding community,” said Sen. Cornyn. “The 2009 Fort Hood victims should be eligible for all the honors and benefits available to U.S. troops who fall victim to an international terrorist attack, especially Purple Heart medals, and this would make that a reality.” … “Nearly five years have passed since the horrible tragedy at Fort Hood took the lives of 13 innocent Americans,” said Congressman Williams. “It is beyond comprehension why the current Administration has labeled this gruesome terrorist attack “workplace violence,” leaving the victims and their families without the benefits, treatment and honor they earned and deserve. This provision in the NDAA would restore the full range of deserved benefits for the victims. Though justice cannot bring back those we lost, justice can be served for the killed and injured troops whose brave actions prevented further bloodshed.
This comes at the same time that the administration is defending itself against charges that decisions were made in the Benghazi attack were animated by the same impulse – to protect Obama instead of protecting Americans.
The idea that this wasn’t a terrorist attack, or a battlefield in the War on Terror, is obscene. The fact liberals accepted this classification without speaking out about it shows you exactly how much they care about the military.
Obama, purely out of spite, will veto the NDAA if this provision survives the Senate and reaches his desk.
That’s how much he cares about our troops.
I’m confused. Can this be done through the Armed Services committee without a vote in the House and Senate?
If so, why hasn’t this been done before now? Five years. Sheesh.
I believe its to preserve the delicate feelings of those who shall not be called jihadists.

I hope the benefits for the families is retro active - Many of them have probably been up against it, financially, for the past 5 years - of course, it still takes 2 2 1/2 years for benefit papers/allotments to get through the back room box-toss.

When the s.o.b. does so, I hope the GOP has the sense to make it into a campaign issue. Denying the proper care to obvious victims of terrorism to protect Muslim feelings will not play well in Peoria.

Yeah, that’s the ticket! Let these people who have already suffered, get their “continuing” healthcare from the VA. They’d be better off with medical vouchers from Mexico.
Harry Reid will refuse to take it up in the Senate. CBS/ABC/NBC will be silent. The NYT will put in on page D22 of Saturday’s paper.
