Plastic bag ban advances in Assembly

A proposal to phase out the use of single-use plastic bags in California grocery stores was approved Wednesday by a key Assembly panel despite heavy lobbying efforts by the plastics trade industry, which warned it would cost the state thousands of jobs.

The measure was approved by the Natural Resources Committee, whose chairman, Wesley Chesbro (C-Arcata), talked about visiting a remote island in the northern Pacific only to find a line of plastic particles littering the beach.

You are one smart cookie. Patent that and you will make a fortune.
I do have a gripe about Walmart bags. I had a farm and the things would blow into the fence line, sometimes a cow would swallow them. You would watch the cow lose weight and it could die. Never happened to me because I searched for them and got rid of them.
They do travel quite a ways. Always figure that if we ever land a man on the moon again, he will find some Walmart bags.

Stuff generally not known about Calif:

On many beaches you cannot have a bonfire

On many beaches in LA county there is a very high fine for throwing a frisbee or a football

In SF pet stores are illegal

Very few home defense pistols and 90% of concealed carry pistols can be legally sold in California

If you are seen carrying a rifle or shotgun in rural parts of California you will probably have the cops called on you

The cheap crud thin plastic bags (made from recycled milk cartons) are not reusable.

So these are already recycled products?

If they ban them, then what will that do to the milk carton recycling industry? People will just start throwing out the milk cartons again?

Almart bags are the worst.

Can’t re-use most of them because they are so thin, the bottom is already ripped from the weight of that 2-pack of Twinkies

What is a single use bag?
I have never met anyone who doesn’t use the bag for a single event.

“I know!

Lets start making grocery bags out of something that’s 100% organic, 100% recyclable, and comes from a renewable natural resource,.....”

It was the environmental movement that was against the use of paper bags and said the plastic ones were more environmentally friendly

Back in the 1980’s the Greens were waging a war on paper companies. They claimed that an area the rain forest Kansas was being cut down every “X” number of days just to make paper bags and that if we didn’t stop it would destroy the planet.

A lady taught me a trick or two, take your walmart bag grab each end and twist till it makes a string and then tie a knot in it. I always just tossed the things under the sink and eventually they take over and cover everything else. I think they breed in the dark. I will try your BagBag, sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

I don’t spend money on a “bag-bag”. I just stuff used plastic bags inside a plastig bag! Problem solved! And it’s free.
