Idaho's Republican governor and his Tea Party challenger were completely overshadowed Wednesday by a biker who claimed God told him he would be president and a longtime Idaho resident with 16 children who said he went to jail for home schooling.
Harley Brown came dressed in his biker regalia. In his opening remarks he proclaimed that after a low point in his life, God told him he would become the commander in chief.
Brown said he is running against political correctness, saying it "sucks" and is “bondage.” He said he is also fighting to stop discrimination against bikers, who he said are “cop magnets” who get pulled over as often as Playboy bunnies get hit on.
“You have your choice, folks,” he said. “A cowboy, a curmudgeon, a biker, or a normal guy. Take your pick.” For the record, he thinks Fulcher is the “normal guy.”
The other long shot, Walt Bayes, primarily discussed his anti-abortion views. When asked by a reporter if he could actually do the job of governor, he noted he was willing to go to jail for home schooling and was willing to serve as governor and stop abortions until thrown out of office.
He also said he wants to take back the land in Idaho from the federal government. Hammering his family's anti-government credentials, he said his wife drove for three years without a license because she didn’t want to take her car for an emissions test.
“We’ve got a bunch of eastern idiots running everything,” he said.
The debate was a throwback to the infamous 2010 debate among New York gubernatorial candidates where the "rent is too damn high" candidate Jimmy McMillan and an adult film star stole the show.

I think I remember him from the Any Which Way but Loose movie.
What’s the difference between Larry the Cable Guy and Brownie the Biker Guy.
Larry is an actor playing the part of Brownie.
I don’t know much about these guys because I’m not in Idaho but I have a hard time finding much to disagree with from Walt Bayes.
If I was a current events teacher I would show this video in class.
An excellent commentary on how people with different beliefs and agendas can be civil in a debate.
It would probably be a fire-able offense.

The fringe candidates appear to be quite likable on the personal level.
Russ Fulcher released a statement yesterday about the debate:

(Meridian, ID) As the local and national media have picked up on the circus that was the Idaho Public Television debate last night, Idaho State Sen. Russ Fulcher and gubernatorial candidate spoke out:
“Although they did not meet the debate’s qualifying criteria, governor Otter demanded inclusion of two perennial candidates, Walt Bayes and Harley Brown, as a contingency of his participation in the only debate he would agree to. As a result, the ‘debate’ turned from a serious discussion regarding the position for Idaho’s Chief Executive, to a mockery of the republican party and of Idaho. Clearly, the governor wanted to take time away from me and minimize exposure to his failed record as governor. Apparently, governor Otter is content to have Idaho be a laughing stock so long as it improves his chance of winning an election.”
Senator Fulcher continued, “Idahoans deserve better. A governor should be willing to hold himself accountable and face a legitimate challenger in a public forum. I have nothing against Mr. Brown or Mr. Bayes, but Governor Otter was well aware of the environment he would create when he demanded their inclusion as a contingency of his participation. When I am governor, I will not subject my party or my state to this type of public humiliation.”
Well, Fulcher obviously accepted the terms.
Well, the hack Governor wanted some people that would make him look good. It’s obvious Fulcher has him out gunned at every turn.
If my house was surrounded by that crew, the Governor is the only one I wouldn’t invite to a BBQ.
Russ Fulcher is the man who should be the next governor of Idaho.
That doesn't mean he has to like them.
