How the Benghazi committee will operate
Washington Post ^ | May 16, 2014 | BY JENNIFER RUBIN

... A knowledgeable source told Right Turn that the committee expects to take depositions, with both counsel and members of Congress participating in the questioning and counsel, members and investigators participating in the drafting and ordering of the questions. More informal witness interviews and witness statements will also be collected, again with investigators, counsel and members participating in the drafting and asking of the questions.

Republicans should be cautiously optimistic that the committee is on track. There are a few takeaways from this.

First, Gowdy is intensely conscious of the danger of meandering, showboating and ineffective questioning.

Second, a lot of the committee’s work is going to be done off-camera.

Third, Republicans should hope that Gowdy and Kiko put committee members on a short leash and focus on the precise issues they want to explore.

The test will come when the committee begins its work, but if Republicans stick to their game plan, Democrats will have a hard time writing it off as a partisan witch hunt.

The Dems have already won. Self-censorship is the worst censorship of all. The Reps are on the defensive.

I sure hope that Gowdy doesn't become a media whore like most of his cohorts and actually does the work of the American people.

Our brave servicemen who laid down their lives to protect and defend our people (regardless of reason to be in harms way) deserve no less.

Sic 'em, Trey!

Good to see they are being thorough. I imagine Gowdy will have this wrapped up by 2020.

Oh, yes. The Reps must be much more circumspect so as not to politicize something that has already been politicized. I wonder where those concerns were when the Dems were running the Watergate investigations or Iran-Contra. The Benghazi investigation must meet the "purer than Caesar's wife" test. As I said, the Dems have already won.

Yes, heaven forbid that the Democrats will write it off as a partisan witch hunt. But we all know that they will regardless of what Gowdy does. I can recall the flock of Democrats that headed to the WH to support poor Bill Clinton after he was impeached—another witch hunt.

Gowdy and the Republican participants need to be cautious about providing DimocRAT “colleagues” the specific (or even general) questions that will be asked. The Dims will be working with the witnesses and those prepping the witnesses. It will be best if the witnesses not know in advance what they will be asked. Even more important, it will be best if the witnesses don’t know what previous witnesses have said to the Committee.

The Republicans need to understand that ANY DimocRATS participating will be there merely to obstruct and sabotage.

There is a lot of pessimism here.
Our experiences with Issa investigations seems to be the reason.

This one is different. I think we will see justice:
- There is documented evidence of a coverup
- The right guy is in charge
- This investigation has sharper teeth
- I don’t think the MSM has unified on this (yet)

“...- The right guy is in charge...”

Yep...and that is THE most important thing.
