The Internet's 51 New Regulators
Wall Street Journal ^ | May 15, 2014 | No Attribution

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler went ahead with his proposal on Thursday to give his agency the power to decide whether the terms and prices of broadband Internet services are "reasonable." That's bad enough as political discretion, but according to dissenting Commissioner Ajit Pai, regulators from every state will also be able to get into the act.

For two decades Congress has wisely refused to give the FCC the same power over the Internet that it holds over the telephone system. And for two decades the Internet has enabled a gusher of creativity that was unimaginable over a century of regulated telephony. Mr. Wheeler's brainstorm to change all this is simply to pretend the Internet is a phone network.

the article went as far as calling this the “ ObamaCare for the Web”.

All BET card holders will be given cable access... and a credit card drafted specifically for web purchases.

the rest of us will be forced to watch rap videos/

Regulation... the death knell of anything!

If we had 51 regulators of family sex, the population in the U. S. would drop to zero in 80 years.

What we need are some good wanted posters!

I thought we already surrendered our control/domination of the Internet to the UN or Russia or someone a month or so ago.

Commissioner Michael O'Rielly, who also dissented, notes that the FCC's net-neutrality campaign "rests on a faulty foundation of make-believe statutory authority."

Illegal power grab as in no bases in law. People should ignore these regulators but many will likely go along.

The government makes an utter sh*t pile out of everything it touches, yet refuses to leave anything alone.

In five years, every petty, small-time, fat-headed and egomaniacal bureaucrat and his brother will have his paws in it, and the Internet will be regulated and priced into oblivion.

It was nice while it lasted, though.

“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.”

I’m guessing you meant the internet “was good while it lasted”. I’d apply it to our entire Nation.

I figure that's how the Founding Fathers would view today's America.

They'd probably be surprised their republic lasted as long as it did.

Over now though.
