Police say gunmen with a high-powered rifle and two pistols sprayed more than 50 rounds in a Rainier Beach neighborhood late Thursday night.
No one was injured, but five businesses, and five vehicles were hit. Reports of the shooting came in after 11 p.m. Thursday.
That shooting came just days after police investigated a similar shooting just a block away. Like Thursday night's shooting, two pistols and a high-powered rifle were used. Up to 60 shots may have been fired.
Police said patrols are being bolstered in that area and other neighborhoods where gun violence has occurred and that SWAT teams are being included in the patrols.
Broken glass littered the street in the 9400 block of Rainier Avenue South after Thursday night's shooting. The site of the shooting is south of Rainier Beach High School.
Police say officers found bullet casings in the streent from the 9300 to the 9500 block of Rainier Avenue South. Police say 39 rifle casings and 14 pistol casings were found.
The shooting is similar to one Monday night in which up to 60 rounds from a high-powered rifle and two pistols were fired near some apartments in the 9200 block of 56th Avenue South.
That shooting also took place after 11 p.m. No one was hurt, and police didn't find any damage.
Earlier this week a woman with a baby in her arms was hit by shrapnel during a gun battled in Othello Park. Police also are investigatng recent shootings in the Central District that left three men dead.
"As police work to determine any connection between these recent incidents SPD is using all available resources to investigate these cases and prevent further bouts of gun violence," police said in a statement. "Detectives from the homicide/assault and gang units are working these cases, and the department has assigned SWAT and other department resources to bolster visible patrols in areas effected by this sudden violence."

At 9400 Rainier Ave. S. there is a KFC/Taco Hell and the Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant. But just to the north of there is an apartment complex that is occupied by many minorities and jihadis and hijabis.
I’m willing to bet the Asian restaurant was hit so they’ll be moving to Chinatown more than likely.
There are just a lot of small business between the 9300 and 9500 blocks of Rainier Ave. S. there are many small businesses and a few big ones.
Othello Park that is mentioned in the article is at the intersection of S. Othello Street and (you guessed it) Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.

Okay, I bite. What caliber is this “high powered” rifle?
I know that park, Peter Steinbrueck, I think. It is a notorious area. And Belltown is also one of the more dangerous areas. It’s a night club and restaurant district, and people either prey on patrons, or the rougher clubs (in variably hip-hop, sorry if that’s racist) provide their own crime.
I don’t think that any of them are anywhere near there.
The John T. Williams affair messed them up good. I’m not justifying the Williams shooting, but it was terribly politicized and Williams turned into a martyr. I think that’s when Eric Holders Justice Dept. started looking into them. I knew nothing good good come of that.
De-policing is a taboo word. But I think it happens. I was suspicious when they were bragging that fewer arrests were made at the MayDay demonstrations this year than last. I wasn’t there, maybe fewer needed to arrested, but it makes you wonder.
I just looked, Victor Steinbrueck, who was (is?) an architect. Peter looks like he was a mayor or something. But close enough, you know the place for sure, nailed it from my perspective.
A rational city would not let street trash take over a park right next to a tourist destination like Pikes Place Market.
Yes that was gratifying when I came out here from Montana. Liberal as they are, Washingtonians value second amendment rights. There are some attitudes I don’t like though. Starbucks is a notorious example. People love gun buy backs. Some years ago when they replaced police weapons, they decided to destroy the old ones instead of selling them, which they probably would normally have done. I considered that wasteful.
We are not liberal at all across the mountains here in eastern WA State, as I'm sure you know, but we do value second amendment rights. The only liberals are those transplanted from the west side or from CA.
I don’t have figures, but from Ive observed Rainier has always been a mixed neighborhood with Blacks, Asians from all over, and new immigrants, right now from a lot of African countries like Somalia. Hispanics (sorry to use that term) favor other south end neighborhoods. The Central Area, near where I used to live, still has a lot of blacks, some recently from Africa, but Blacks live all over, especially once they can afford it. The Central Area is very historic, though. Most immigrant groups live in this neighborhood or others like it for awhile, then disperse naturally once they get more successful. Some Rainier and MLK Way businesses were displaced by light rail, I think.
From my casual observance, Indians and some other Asians go directly to the east side without stopping in Seattle. My guess is because a lot of them are employed in STEM jobs.

I just kept seeing Jim Mc Dermott elected over and over and now Patty Murray has been in for two decades. I also think that Ksharma Sawant may have mayoral aspirations. DeBlasio on the Pacific, I call it.
It’s quite possible I’ve taken my last trip to Seattle and it’s only 200 miles away. Basically same adverse attraction as San Francisco. Throw in Portland, too. Damn glad for bypass highways and rural routes.
