Economic interests, such as untapped shale gas resources, already sliced and diced by Western energy giants, are behind the Kiev governments anti-terrorist operation against the pro-federalist regions, foreign policy expert Nebojsa Malic tells RT.
The eastern Donetsk and Lugansk regions cut ties with Kiev and declared independence from Kiev after a popular vote last Sunday. Yet federalist activists have no doubt that a new wave of government crackdown is on its way.
And they do have every reason to think so, because, as RTs Gayane Chichakyan reports, reinstating control over the restive regions isn't the only agenda driving Kiev's ongoing offensive, as the core of the conflict is probably only business as usual.
Eastern Ukraine is not only of people who dont want to be under the Kiev coup-installed governments control, but there are also natural energy resources in the region, such as coal and more specifically, shale natural gas, untapped deposits of which lie underground in the Dnieper-Donets basin.
The cities Kiev is now striving to force into submission by making them war zones are situated in the area of shale gas deposits

Burisma holds licenses covering the Dnieper-Donets basin in the eastern Ukraine and Biden jr. is not the only American with political ties to have recently joined the company's board.
Devon Archer, a former senior advisor to current Secretary of State John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign and a college roommate of Kerry's stepson, signed up with Burisma in April.
Maybe Joe Biden’s son’s appointment was more than a coincidence. Hmmm.
I don’t think it a scandal that any nation would want to hold on to a part of itself that has economic potential.
I don’t know about being behind it but there is certainly some profiteering happening because of it.
More than a little unseemly that we impose sanctions on Russia and then we see Hunter Biden appointed to director of the largest Ukrainian gas company.
How come you post leftist moon bat sources?
Do you have a source that contradicts what is posted here?
No Russian imperialists with their Little Green Men are.
The title of this thread reminds mo of one I saw on the cover of a magazine back in 1970.
DID MY SON DIE IN VIETNAM FOR OFF SHORE OIL?
Nothing is posted except leftist cliche.
Business as usual. Slice and dice.
It’s a comic book.
Source: RT (i.e. Russia Times)
Consider the source.
The article is filled with RT bias.
I’ve been saying all along that Russia’s interest is in these oil deposits because once developed they will cut into their dominance over the european market. Through an official Kremlin news source none other than RT Putin now confirms it. The irony is what through the RT accuses “the West NATO et al” (straw men) of doing is exactly what they are doing.
Because of Russian interference an Exon offer of exploration and devlopment off the coast of the Ukraine on the Black Sea was nixed. Once in complete control there the europeans better forget about any competition in energy prices because it’s all going into PP , Putin’s pocket. And the oliargchs which include Gerhard Schrader and a number of “westerners” as investors. Forcing the Ukrainians to do likewise in order to protect their interests.
The difference is while these leverage business arrangements with what appears to be opportunistic power brokers exist. Leastwise they are transparent and offer citizens of those respective countries owning those areas of engery “play” some guarantee of a return rather than it all going to Russia.
Exactly.
There is nothing surprising about a country fighting to hang on to its territory. There is nothing surprising that a territory has some economic value.
Russia is fighting to control the area for many reasons but its hydrocarbons would be icing on the cake as it would help to maintain Russia's near monopoly on gas production. That isn't the reason Russia is trying to take it, but its an additional feature. Just as it isn't a reason Ukraine would fight to hang on to it, but breaking Russia's monopoly on gas production should be a strategic interest to everyone who isn't Russian.
As for Hunter Biden, corrupt people will find a way to profit from whatever happens. They could profit from helping the Russians, like Gerhard Schroeder for example, or profit from helping the Ukrainians. Since the policy is to help Ukraine (apparently) the Bidens are making sure they profit.
