10,000 Young Toddlers Are on Stimulant Drugs for ADHD
http://www.huffingtonpost.com ^ | May 17, 2014 | Allen Frances, M.D

How crazy is it to drug babies? ……… An adventurous group of cowboy child psychologists invented a new and untested diagnostic category (with the ridiculous name 'Sluggish Cognitive Tempo') that would be a wonderful target for additional inappropriate stimulant use. …. "Treating babies with stimulants is based on no research, is reckless, and takes no account of the possible harmful long-term effects of bathing baby brains with powerful neurotransmitter drugs."

Dr. Frances is one of the good guys, was chairman of DSM4 group and the loudest critic of DSM5, which makes everything a "disease" to be treated with drugs. Most of the DSM5 participants also worked for drug companies.

How many will go on to be mass killers, ala Columbine, etc.?

Dr. Frances has a regular column at HuffPo, and he’s brilliantly readable.
You can find out more about him at, of all places:

I also liked his April editorial, “No Child Left Undiagnosed.”

Well, we don’t know how many will be mass killers, do we? And neither do the BigPharma-supported shrinks.

Some children — I don’t know about toddlers — do require pharmaceutical treatment for ADHD. A newer drug, Strattera, is used for that purpose and is not a stimulant.

Some kids probably do need treatment, but not anywhere near the number that are taking dangerous meds. Psychiatrists used to counsel patients; now they give them drugs at their first appointment. Many, including the distinguished psychiatrist/professor/author of this piece on HuffPo, are up in arms about this situation.

ADHD= Avoiding Discipline-Helping Delinquents

99% of ADHD can be cured with a smack on the arse.

I guess you're jokingly suggesting that would help with the attention deficit portion as well. Does it also work with adults who continue having problems with concentration and task-focus? Thinking about the adult ADHD patients I worked with I'm skeptical. Would it even be legal to assault them in the way you're suggesting? /

Not sure of the 99%, but some definitely will. Here are more comments from Dr. Frances blaming the “epidemic” of ADHD diagnoses on BigPharma.

That’s the Huffpo headline. I squinted at it too, but it did grab your attention and mine.

Come to t hunk of it, what is a toddler? I think of the age when they still walk with their arms out for balance. Other people might think of clothing sizes. Or before they get out of diapers.

Or before they’re old enough to drink?

Exactly!!!! And the long-term effects, which have not been tested, might burn down the town. Maybe literally.

Not until they change his meds.

That garbage is worse than speed. I took it for a few weeks and it spaced me out and caused severe hyper focus. It would occur at random times, putting me in a day dream stage where I would lose minutes just staring off into nothing. Id rather have attention issues than be on drugs all day that have the same or worse side effects than street drugs.
