Scientists are never wrong. There is no room for skepticism. Listen, I would rather take my chances with climate change than sacrifice my freedom to a bunch of politicians who will take care of the climate ‘for me’. It’s not like the climate has never changed before (with or without humans).

Reading Krugman write about the climate is like listening to Obama speak about Constitutional Law.

“First, Australia cut global-warming spending and now the U.K. has followed. The British government has cut programs to fight global warming by 41 percent, fueling allegations that the countrys environment minister is a global warming skeptic.”

Krugman is much better at climate theory than economic theory.

I don’t care about the damn planet. I don’t want to be forced to pay for a planet that I won’t be on 15 years from now. Nobody prior to us cared about the damn planet either. They were smart because nothing has happened to the damn planet that God didn’t plan and we are still here whining, bitchin, and sinning. The planet will survive, but we really don’t deserve to.
yeah, I sound callous. Big deal.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the power of doctrines - how support for a false dogma can become politically mandatory, and how overwhelming contrary evidence only makes such dogmas stronger and more extreme. This is amazing! What Krugman is actually describing is the false dogma of global warming.
Just reverse the sides he's talking about, and you've got it right.
If anyone should go straight 'round the corner and never come back, it's Krugman.

only the GOP's extremist fringe asserted that global warming was a hoax concocted by a vast global conspiracy of scientistsThe hoax is a political one, not a scientific one, you insufferable hack.

Once upon a time it was possible to take climate change seriously And then the truth about the corruption of the science came out.

I also see a similarity to string theory -- no physical evidence, just a "consensus" of opinion among the in-group of scientists at the elite schools who control funding and appointments, as well as an appeal to mathematical models as the main argument, and a disparagement of the scientists who disagree (some of whom are quite accomplished, as is the case with global warming skeptics as well).
The sociology of the two areas, global warming and string theory, is distressingly similar.
