On a recent Saturday, foot soldiers in the Republican Party's civil war fanned out across a neighborhood of winding streets and manicured lawns to beat back the Tea Party.
They did not meet much resistance. Over the course of two hours, dozens of residents said they planned to vote in the May 20 primary election for Idaho Representative Mike Simpson, a veteran lawmaker with a reputation for pragmatism. None said they would back his Tea Party challenger Bryan Smith.
As he heads for a likely victory on Tuesday, Simpson has plenty of help. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and the National Rifle Association have joined with groups representing hospitals, dentists and home sellers to try to return him to Congress for an eighth term.

The GOP-wing of the Democrat party considers the TEA party to be the enemy, while they consider Democrats to be their colleagues.
That’s shown in the way the GOPe went after Sarah and also stood back and let the rats libel her. It was despicable.
I do not know much about Bryan Smith. Maybe Mike Simpson supports tea party principles, or is perceived as doing so.
To me, the Tea Party principles support common sense, borders, language, and culture, fiscal responsibility, scientific facts and not popular culture and opinion in connection with life, marriage, and climate change.

On a larger scale are we seeing a repeat of the failed Romney strategy that blew the 2012 election?
In the primary campaign Romney was very aggressive and pulled no punches with other republicans seeking the nomination.
If he saw them making headway he rolled right over them at every opportunity.
But in the general election against Obama he turned into a weak willed pussy and handed Obama the election with hardly a whimper.
He didn’t mount a significant challenge by attacking any of Obama’s huge failures and just set back while Obama defined him and made the election about Romney, not the failed Obama administration.
Now we see the republican establishment going after conservative candidates with the same determination that Romney showed against his fellow republicans.
I wonder if they’ll fight as hard against the Democrat opponent in the general election?
Candidates who articulate constitutional conservative principles will win primaries and elections. Those who think the “tea party” label will win it for them won’t. The label is confusing, and we’ve been back-stabbed too many times....both by people who’ve lied to get our support and truly awful candidates.
