AUSTIN - The mental condition of state Sen. Dan Patrick, front-runner in the GOP runoff for lieutenant governor, became the key issue Friday in the already acrimonious race, as medical records leaked by opponents show he was hospitalized twice in the 1980s, once after a suicide attempt, and received treatment for severe depression and anxiety.
In a campaign marked by nasty rhetoric bordering on the bizarre, incumbent Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who is trailing Patrick, began openly feuding with Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, a former rival for Texas' No. 2 elective office, over the disclosures: Dewhurst ordered Patterson to stop the continued leaks, and Patterson refused.
Patrick accused Dewhurst of complicity in the leaks, but the Dewhurst campaign denied that. In a statement, Dewhurst said: "My heart goes out to Dan and his family for what they've endured while coping with his condition."

I don’t have much info on the District 36 race, TC. I do know that Streusand doesn’t live in the district. He lives in Spring, TX.
Babin is a dentist (business owner) and former military.
That’s about all I know about 36.
New District 36 took up part of my old Pete Olson’s Dist. 22 in 2012 after census data update.
What a dirty dirty low down political animal Dewhurst has become. He sees his political future goin down the tubes.
I have met Dan Patrick. I do not know him personally, but I've listened to him on the radio for many years, he visited our church and discussed the heart of Texas piece.
Dan is a good man and is on the Christian journey with us.
I don't agree with everything he supports, but I can say that he has my vote for Lt. Gov.
I live in TX-36 and voted for Ben Streusand in the March 4th Primary. He will get my vote again in the runoff election. Nevertheless, I won't be terribly disappointed if Brian Babin wins the runoff.
Streusand's major support came from heavily-populated Harris County where he got nearly four times as many votes as Babin in the March 4 election. Streusand is well known to Harris County Republican voters as a conservative activist and frequent political commentator on KSEV radio (Dan Patrick's radio station).
Having listened to Streusand on KSEV radio for many years, I feel comfortable voting for him. I also closely follow the endorsements of the The Kingwood Tea Party and that group has given their support to Streusand.

He’s a lot more conservative than Dewhurst, but he isn’t as good as Cruz. I’ll take the improvement.
Patrick was a part of Dewhurst's campaign against Cruz.
This is one of those unfortunate situations where Patrick will be better, but he is also a flake, and sleazy himself.
Thanks for the reminder! :)
How many Democratic office holders and those seeking office as a Democrat have been committed to a mental institution or have attempted suicide?
While none of us know the answer to that question, we do know that the media would never report such information out of privacy.
But, for a Tea Party Republican there is no privacy of their medical records as it pertains to suicide attempts and stints In a mental hospital.
Yes, I remember Dan trying to have it both ways in the Dewhurst/Cruz primary.
I looked into him one day, he is a flaky and oily man, I hope he wins, but I also hope he doesn’t turn into a big unethical, uncentered (no true core) problem.
He managed to get himself into this position to get elected, and I’m not impressed with the way he has done it over the years.
My dad always told me to beware of a man that has to tell you he's a Christian when doing business.
I'm willing to give him a chance.
I think the consensus is that everyone has to vote for Patrick, but I am pleased to see how aware of him most freepers are.
I think the Texas tea party is pretty much in the same place on him aren’t they? They support him, but see him as an ambitious opportunist?
“Now Dan Patrick stands accused by his formerly illegal alien, now U.S. Citizen, former employee of not only hiring him and three other illegal immigrants, but hiring them with false documents and even allegedly offering to sneak one of them back from the Texas/Mexico border, past inland security checkpoints.
In a Dallas Morning News report, Miguel Mike Andrade, 48, of Missouri City, told The Dallas Morning News and Houstons KTRK-TV that he, his cousin and two other men from Mexico worked at one of Patricks five sports bars that operated in the Houston area until 1986.
At that time, there were no penalties involved in hiring someone in this residing in the U.S. illegally according to the report.
The report explains:
Andrade agreed that a manager under Patrick hired him and the other three men, but said that after a few months Patrick knew that the four workers didn’t have permission to be in the countrybecause he told Patrick.
He said Patrick was a compassionate employer. He said Patrick offered sympathy over their anguish at living so far from their loved ones and being constantly in fear of being deported.
He was real, real, real kind with us
real good with the Hispanic community. He was really wishing (he had) some kind of power
to help us to work in this country and have a better life, said Andrade, who recalled that he was hired at the West Houston sports bar in 1983 or 1984.
Patrick responded to the Dallas Morning News report stating, he only vaguely remembers Andrade at one of his establishments. He said he had nothing to do with the hiring and that managers at each location handled employment decisions.”
Dewhurst cannot get in the mud faster than anyone.
He has no Backbone.
count me in for three votes.
Three votes against Dewhurst this morning.
Me, my wife and daughter.
I drove them to the polls.
Nobody gets in the mud faster than Dewhurst.
And "Dirty" David really turned me off with his US senate run against Ted Cruz.
