Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst has raised only about $1.6 million since late February, but lent himself nearly twice that while attempting to beat back a primary challenge from state Sen. Dan Patrick.
Campaign finance records released Tuesday show Dewhurst collecting $1.65 million in donations from Feb. 23 to last week. That's far less than he'd promised to raise. Dewhurst also pumped $3 million of his own money into his campaign in April and May, after previously lending it $2 million.
Including earlier loans, Dewhurst's campaign now is carrying nearly $5.4 million in debts.

By the way, ANYONE donating ANY amount of money to Dewhurst’s campaign is on a fool’s errand.
He paid way too much for his laughably bad TV ads. They look like a parody of Dirty Campaign Ads.
Dan Patrick is not the perfect candidate, but he's also not one of the Austin GOP insiders.

This will be a huge loss for the GOPe - bigger than losing a Senate seat. The Lt. Gov. has significant legislative power in Texas and can do far more to further a conservative agenda than your typical Senator in DC

I like Patrick’s catching the ‘kitchen sink’ ad.. this is starting to feel a lot like Cruz v. Dewhurst deja-vu.

A lot of people don’t know or remember that a Houston Aryan Brotherhood with big cartel ties tried to kill Patrick a few years ago, shooting up the Capitol, demanding access to his offices.
If Dan’s enemies are Mexican cartels and skinheads, I think we got the right guy.
I haven’t heard/seen the kitchen sink ad. I’ll look for it.
This is all you need to know about Dewhurst. He tried to circumvent the law to get a relative out of jail.

Interesting that he raised SO LITTLE from the outside, given his position. I suspect that Rove and company have already given up on him and moved on to other conservatives to try to take down.
