Yes, I agree. I think an incumbent minority leader with 60% of the vote is embarrassing. I'm sure he understands he is in a weak position, but he just wants to win, if even by one vote. Trust me, I do understand Mitch is horrid. He feels as if he has been bitten by conservatives - that he has a hard job that no one understands - that he is not appreciated, etc. So he has fought back, stupidly in my opinion, since he has alienated even more people.

I don't really understand why he is minority leader. He has never greatly impressed me in his public musings, so I have to assume he must be talented behind the scenes where no cameras go. The best result is for Mitch to win and then is dethroned and denied Majority Leader. But I am a realist and know that will never happen.

I haven't been following the KY GOP primary that closely. What, in your view, were Bevin's weaknesses? My impression is that he was a part time candidate, and that really doesn't fly when you're running against old pro and a Senate leader like McConnell. But I assume you're talking about Bevin's vulnerability in the general election.

KY is not a red state and it’s not a blue state. It’s a mixed bag and is perfect for a ‘moderate’ like McConnell to play both sides against the other.

Bevin was conservative through and through. If the state had been a red state he would have won hands down.

If McConnell had been running on a democrat ticket (and McConnell is a closet democrat), then he would have lost because KY voters are not in a mood to continue their support for democrats. And Bevin would have been voted in.

But the 40% conservative base in KY now know they have a lying weasel on the republican ticket going into November, and they will stay home. McConnell will then lose to Grimes.
