“Free” preventive health care is one of Obamacare’s chief selling points. But as millions of newly covered people begin to seek that benefit, some are still getting stuck with bills.
The Affordable Care Act requires insurers to pay the full cost of services like cholesterol checks, women’s birth control, immunizations, colonoscopy screenings and a host of other items. It also covers “well visits” for children and adults — periodic checkups not triggered by a particular health complaint.
But does a free colonoscopy cover just the screening or the immediate removal of polyps, too? Does the smoking-cessation benefit include counseling, medication or both? And exactly when does a routine checkup become an ailment-specific appointment and leave patients on the financial hook?

Free healthcare is a heck of a lot more expensive than the kind which costs money.
Free.
Are the doctors working for free? The technicians? The radiologists? The guys driving the mobile equipment thingies? The President, spewing all of this silliness?
Who’s giving what away, free? The taxpayers?
HE is completely unaware of any rules of economics.
Can we not allow the liberals to put in Julian Castro after this?
Can we just make it stop?

Just got a $600 bill for my once-a-year supposed ‘free’ health check. The only thing ‘covered’ was $300 for the doctor to walk in the room and spen 10 minutes looking in my ears and nose and typing on her laptop to order the lab work. I actually called the insurance co to ask about the bill and they proceeded to run down the list of lab work and say that this and that part of the ‘health check’ blood panel was not recommended by they US Dept of Health. I said all I did was go in for a yearly checkup and the doctor ordered blood work. Was I supposed to know exactly which tests we’re and were not covered and tell her to omit them? What can the doctor know without blood tests? SOOOOO stupid I just wanted to scream.

Actually there is ... a mandated Moo lunch, which more often than not, ends up in the trash.
A doctor may need to find out how well prescription drugs are and are not working, to check blood cholesterol levels and other stuff a physical exam doesn’t reveal. And if you have a history of heart disease or other ailments, you don’t know what tests are medically appropriate. Few patients have that kind of knowledge.
