Somerville (Ma) to relax immigration enforcement
http://bostonherald.com/ ^ | 05/21/2014 | Chris Cassidy, O'Ryan Johnson

Starting tomorrow, it’s no longer illegal to be illegal in Somerville, according to Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, who is slated to sign an executive order Thursday barring his cops from holding undocumented aliens in jail simply for immigration violations — an unprecedented move, even in the Bay State, though other communities may quickly follow suit.

“We need to stop villainizing these people and start solving the problem,” Curtatone told the Herald yesterday. “Massachusetts holds itself out as a progressive state. We should lead the way. We hold ourselves out as a progressive community that believes in fairness and doing the right thing. This is morally the right thing to do.”

Somerville — which made national headlines in 2012 for banning the word “illegal” in reference to illegal immigrants — would be the first community in Massachusetts to join the so-called Trust Act movement, a national push to relax immigration enforcement.

Police would only comply with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers to hold illegals if they had a criminal warrant or if police had a non-immigration-related legal purpose, Curtatone plans to announce today at a press conference.

Unemployment rate is 6.3 percent officially.

Much higher in fact.

Yet our establishment wants to ever-more coddle illegal immigrants.

Americans need jobs. For Americans. Stop coddling illegals.

The unsaid message in this: “If you live in Somerville (or MA), and disagree with this policy... we want you to leave”

It’s nice that a city can so flagrantly violate FEDERAL laws. Of course, that only applies if they’re left-wing. Let’s see a Conservative locale try picking and choosing which laws to obey and not to.

If the illegal immigrant is carrying an "undocumented" hand gun with a suppressor, will Somerville ignore state/federal gun laws too??

Do illegal immigrants get to drive in Somerville without a license/insurance, too?

There is a joke among MA police- whenever someone is arrested in that state they always ask “when did he live in Somerville?”

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, who is slated to sign an executive order
So how is it that a lowly mayor gets to override a federal law?

Some have claimed - falsely - that Romney gave free healthcare to illegals. That is not true.

You are claiming that the governor of MA designated several sanctuary cities? Legally, how could an officer of a state do that to a city? Do you have a source? Book of Mormon?

Somerville must be a big agricultural area in Massachusetts, huh? Lots of strawberries, lettuce and stuff?

Hey, that’s swell, Joe; we’ll send our teeming masses of illegal invaders up your way. We’re printing the maps for them now.

Enjoy.

There are, sadly, many, many here on FR who believe, among other things, that Romney is Satan's evil twin. These people would be correct to believe that the majority...the *large* majority...of Massachusetts politicians of recent times are filthy, despicable pieces of excrement.I give you Kennedy,Warren,Kerry and Patrick as just a few examples of such filth. But Romney,as very imperfect as he was, doesn't qualify. These people, most of whom have never even set foot in Massachusetts, think they know how "Romneycare" came about...just to give one example. But they don't,in reality, have the first blessed clue.
