"WASHINGTON (AP) — Millions of Americans would no longer get mail delivered to their door but would have to go to communal or curbside boxes instead under a proposal advancing through Congress.
The Republican-controlled House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, on an 18-13 party-line vote, approved a bill Wednesday to direct the U.S. Postal Service to convert 15 million addresses over the next decade to the less costly, but also less convenient delivery method."

privatize, that will save the most

I get real sick and tired of the surly molasses like service at the Post Office

When I go to UPS, it is quick, efficient, neat and friendly

Certainly more effective than closing post offices.

Didn’t they keep pretending the USPS was running as a quasi-independent company? They spend millions running ads and sponsoring stuff, like they did the Tour de France stuff, but can’t figure out how to cut the waste or raise the price of junk mail?

Well then, this mail carrier will be one of the last to win the grand prize on America's Funniest Videos with a video about delivering mail thru a mail slot....

I added this comment only because I just saw this episode this very past Sunday and thought it relevant.

Looks like one too many people decided to "stop" their mail delivery. See what happens now? Postmaster General Brimley is none too pleased.

I like my mail delivered through the door slot.

So does my dog. Around noon he starts anticipating the postman's arrival, pacing back and forth to the door. When it does happen, he goes into an absolute rage, barking/growling with that killer tone and hackles up. He often grabs a circular and shreds it. On holidays and Sundays he can't understand why his favorite prey has not arrived.

They’re cutting my post office back to two hours which is fine for me, not so much for people who happen to work during those two hours.

My UPS man says they’ll end up raising their rates because of it. They make most of their deliveries in my little town to the post office unless otherwise specified. Forcing them to make door to door deliveries will force them to hike prices.

Yep, it is all the Republicans fault that they bled another how many billions last year?

snip for NYT article; “WASHINGTON — The financially troubled Postal Service on Friday reported a net loss of $1.9 billion in the second quarter, the same amount it lost over the same period in 2013, postal officials said.”

In actuality, one can say that the Republicans are complicit in that they have shown no inclination to trim the wings of this horrible excuse of a so-called independent agency.

I have to drive a couple miles to the post office for mail, they can walk to the road or down the block.

Other than the apc, I don’t use the post office at all. Almost everything is ups or FedEx and both are way better than than the USPS on any given day.

I’ve kept a ups store box for years. I don’t like packages dropped on the doorstep when I’m not home. They sign and send me an alert at from the store.

Do you really want minimum wage undocumented guest workers handling your replacement credit cards?

We can't figure out which market the big and expensive USPS Spiderman ad campaign is supposed to target.
