The hood... coming soon to a middle-class neighborhood near you.

Because every neighborhood needs its own ghetto. Mayor Wilhem won't be happy until NYC turns into Detroit.

These idiots have tried these schemes for more than fifty years and they never work. All they will achieve is creating more ghettos.

In addition to the crime and other middle-class flight, it seems to me that it is not necessarily a benefit to kids moved into an area they actually can’t afford.

Imagine as a kid watching your friends or potential friends enjoying the perks of a higher standard of living. Their bikes are cooler, they go to summer camp, they take vacations to Disney World, they have electronics out the wazoo. I have counseled families to avoid living in an area they really can’t afford because they can’t “keep up with the Joneses”. It’s a recipe for resentment and envy, especially given the tendency to envy rather than emulate.

Better is to stop justifying dysfunctional behavior and attitudes and start creating good role models among their current neighbors. Once up-and-coming neighborhoods had good role models from their own neighbors who were assimilating, learning English, working hard to getting an education. Now these people are derided as Uncle Toms or traitors to their culture. That’s the attitude we need to change and moving families into neighborhoods where they have little in common with the others won’t change that.

Hey - they should be moved into liberal elite neighborhoods... let's share the joy of being ‘compassionate’.

Jeb Bush's taking 60 illegals to live in his home. Bush says they don't mind sleeping 15 to a room... and he's got the space... Jeb’s going to show us he's willing to do what he wants to force us to do. I can admire that...

This should be the same... allow liberal elites the privilege of showing the rest of us how superior they are - we'll learn from their example...

Memphis tried this... what happened was spread crime out over the city in such a way that their police department became inadequate...

When crime’s centralized it’s easier to handle with fewer officers. When it’s spread out over a large metropolitan area it becomes almost impossible ... I believe the original research was reported in Scientific American...

Coming to the suburbs near you. Don’t kid yourself. This is a goal of the leftists. There will be “families” in your neighborhood who didn’t pay for their house, you did. You will be forced to put up with the noise and the stink and the rapes and the crime.

Not quite the same, but... I live near Albany NY and they park their new welfare cases, druggies and vagrants in motels at the City outskirts. They do this to give the “appearance” that downtown is cleaner. In effect it really just allows those problems to metastasize and drags down neighborhoods that would otherwise be relatively free of such issues -sinks the City as a whole.

It has already happened due to our HOA. The by-laws were changed to allow people to rent out their houses when the economy slowed down and houses could not be sold for months on end. Now fly-by-nights are in here, and when they skip out on the lease, we are left with the flooded basements, mold, unkempt lawns, and whatever else lowers the property value. We keep getting our dues jacked up to pay for things the original owner/residents never had to: someone to pick up dog waste, private security, etc. The renters do not respect the parking arrangements, do not keep quiet, do not observe any of the rules they don’t want to, run businesses illegally out of the houses so that there is no parking due to strangers constantly using the street like a strip mall. It is hell.

Good luck on that idea...they will need it.

In Lancaster County they moved ‘one’ family of section 8 people into a quiet turn around culdisack. The homes were all middle-class 'working' folks.

Immediately boom box's were blaring 24/7 and old cars lined driveways in need of repairs. Parents yelling constantly at their children and domestic arguments played out on the street. Not to mention a constant flow of traffic throughout as their friends “visited” 24/7.

One by one neighbors moved out, in just two years there was nothing left but section 8 people and the place is a squalor now.

A redux of "white flight" will be the consequence of this stupidity. Anyone with half a brain has their property listed and a new destination in mind now.

Let us not forget that the Housing collapse all started because Dems in Congress wanted under-qualified minorities to be able to get into better homes and neighborhoods. Trillions were lost, as the Dems in the subcommittees were told would happen.

Why not move them to the upper East side so that the good liberals can REALLY get to know them...

The utopian idea is 'middle class white' rubs off. Why not take that idea 'all the way'...

Move Section 8 people into UPPER CLASS neighborhoods. AND into the cool exclusive buildings New York Times editors live in... And yeah, even trendy established bi-racial neighborhoods could use Section 8 housing.

If values 'RUB OFF' why not give the poor and homeless the best?

Whole 'projects' could be placed where college professors live. And in upper class liberal elite neighborhoods. Does Bloomberg have the opportunity to 'role model' for the less fortunate? We can help him have that chance...

Yes, we'll have to pay more to put people in million dollar homes - but the poor will be happy. Million dollar homes can be broken up into apartments for the poor... and homeless.

In a few years when 'upper class' has rubbed off - the poor and homeless will be liberal elites with great jobs.

I'm sure it'll work...

Like a liberal, I CARE. I HAVE GREATER COMPASSION. I WANT the homeless to do better. Michael Moore could use some new neighbors next to his mansion on the river... same with Al Gore. Bill Clinton's neighborhood could use a little diversity... Let's give the poor a real chance... let them live with - and become - liberal elites.

The problem is the incentives to assimilate people are all wrong when it’s forced... we can do better.
