A few months ago I had my very first contact with a Saudi...three of them,in fact.I was on an evening long "desert safari" (in Dubai) and the car that picked me up already had three young Saudi ladies aboard.Two of them spoke English well and,yes,they were quite attractive.But we were in a moslem country plus they were young enough to be my daughters so I behaved myself at all times ;-).They were in Dubai for "a long weekend".They were dressed,modestly but stylishly,in Western clothes but they did wear a light covering loosely over their hair.As we talked one of them spoke of having been to New York several times...I got the distinct sense that they were quite "Westernized" and probably wealthy as well.During the drive through the sand dunes they were screaming like little girls...enjoying themselves thoroughly.I asked them at one point why they came to Dubai...of all places...and they said "because this is the place to have fun".

Although I was tempted to do so,I didn't ask them what their lives were like in Saudi...for fear of embarrassing them (or worse).

That's my one and only "social" contact with Saudi citizens.
