A progressive alternative to Obamacare
MSNBC ^ | May 23, 2014 | By Geoffrey Cowley

... President Obama’s Affordable Care Act gives private insurers control of the market through 2016, but Vermont lawmakers have voted to adopt a single-payer system as soon as that federal mandate expires. If state officials can devise a viable financing plan—and keep all the critical stakeholders onboard—the transformation could come as soon as 2017.

The advent of Obamacare was an epochal achievement, to be sure, but it leaves commercial insurers a dominant role, bets on market forces to control spiraling costs, and keeps large employers in charge of most people’s health care. Beyond the small subset of Americans (about 7% of those under 65) who buy insurance on the individual market, Obamacare simply preserves the status quo.

So four years ago, Vermont elected Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin to pursue a bolder alternative.

I absolutely support this.

Vermont will go broke within two years. It will serve as a valuable lesson to all of the other LIV’s out there.

Better this experiment happen in a state with less than 700,000 people than in, say, California.

Vermont and their twin Commie state Hawaii have had their own version of ObaMaoCare before the term was even invented. You've got to ask yourself why they couldn't be satisfied with what they had rather than seek to impose an even worse version on the rest of the country.

In Hawaii's case, I can sort of understand it was because they have a mild climate which is a magnet for slackards. But Vermont basically has a nice climate only during the summer unless you are a ski bum. So they aren't exactly overrun with slackards of the non-white variety.

If they can't make single payer work here, they can't make it work anywhere.

Why do you think lefties will face reality? When it goes bankrupt, funds will be pulled from other tax revenues, taxes will be raised, and then all else fails, Shumlin will cry that one state can’t go it alone, the plan needs to go nationwide. “Yes, we’re losing money on every customer but we’ll make it up in volume!”

States, unlike Fedzilla, can’t print their own money. They WILL go broke within a couple of years. When they try and yank money away from Support for the Arts and Public Schools to shore it up, all Hades is gonna break loose.

So they aren't exactly overrun with slackards of the non-white variety.

Vermont is overrun with white slackards from the Columbia campus and from other areas of metropolitan Boston and New York.

Except the Feds will bail ‘em out. That’s the current lesson to all failing Americans.

Single payer has been their goal all along. It’s all about incrementalism.

You might be right. You must agree that lefists refuse to acknowledge reality though.
