A Chinese court on Friday convicted a mining billionaire said to have links with former security tsar Zhou Yongkang of murder and sentenced him to death.

Liu Han led private company Hanlong, which once launched a billion-dollar bid for an Australian firm. He and his brother Liu Wei were found guilty of "organising and leading a mafia-style group", murder and other crimes, the Xianning Intermediate People's Court said.

They and three accomplices were sentenced to death.

Amazing; in China they execute billionaires for stuff like this. Something admirable, making a rich man face consequences. If we did the same with Enron execs, we would have a much more honest business world.

Dude, you’re a BILLIONAIRE. For a couple grand, you could have bought some forged documents and living on a beach somewhere. Yet you hung around and let yourself be arrested?

If I was a billionaire in that situation, you wouldn’t -believe- the hit squads, rescue teams, power lawyers, bribery artists, honey traps, and distraction teams that would swing into action.

Im just sayin’

Looks like he bought the wrong member of the Central Committee. Here in this country, all he’d have to do is buy the President. It’s the Chicago way...

He wasn’t thinking ahead. All smart billionaires have that stuff in secret places so they can get it right away and end up bailing to a country without an extradition treaty.

I wonder why they chose to call him a billionaire instead of the head of a huge organized crime syndicate.

I don’t remember John Gotti being called a millionaire in headlines. The Teflon Don, Crime Lord, Mafia Chieftan...why does this guy get a break?

According to the Wikipedia, he was a member:

He was a member of the 17th Politburo Standing Committee (PSC), China's top decision-making body, and the Secretary of the Central Political and Legislative Committee between 2007 and 2012. In that position, Zhou oversaw China's security apparatus and law enforcement institutions, with power stretching into courts, prosecution agencies, police forces, paramilitary forces, and intelligence organs.

Looks like he had a bit of a killing gang going.

If you’re not doing it in the name of the Chicom gummit, that does get you frowned on over there.
