The pundits of England, like the BBC's Nick Robinson for example, have acknowledged an "earthquake" in the election results for local councils showing a big surge for the United Kingdom Independence Party.
But then they move on to say that UKIP is not going to control any of the councils, only got 17 percent of the popular vote while the Conservatives and Labour got more.
It reminds me of what a Democrat might have said in Texas in the mid-1960's. "The Republicans might have elected John Tower to the Senate, but we still control the Governor's office, the Lieutenant Governor's office, the state legislature and almost all the House seats...."
When a new party emerges into the political scene it emerges in the bigger national office races, not the local ones, then it takes over the state and local offices like Republicans have done in Texas in the years following the 1960's.
The truth about the local council elections is that UKIP could not field a candidate in every council area for the thousands of seats being contested. Its just not that well organized yet like the Republicans were not that well organized in Texas 50 years ago.
The real story of the Thursday vote is how well UKIP did in races it did contest like one Labour Party stronghold where it was capturing 30 percent of the popular vote.
Its that 30 percent UKIP support level that's been reflected in public opinion polls about the European Parliament Elections also held on Thursday, with results embargoed until other countries vote on Sunday.
UKIP is well enough organized now to contest nationwide for the EU Parliament seats and the polling suggests a likely first place finish over all the other political parties. Polls have shown anywhere from 27 to 38 percent popular vote support for UKIP. In the last election for the European Parliament, UKIP's share was 16.6 percent.
If that were reflected in next year's General Election for the House of Commons, there would be a hung parliament.
By the way, there is a special election for a House of Commons seat on June 5th. UKIP is contesting it and a victory in the EU elections could start a wave in that race.
Will UKIP get thirty percent of the popular vote and a proportional share of the UK's 78 seats in the European Parliament?
Tomorrow we will know the answer.
The tea party needs an official party. No more Tea Party Express or Tea Party Patriots or the dozens of other groups that are far too ineffective and can easily be swept by the GOP and Dems.
Candidates need an actual structure they can attach themselves to and be supported by, and there has to be a filter so not just any nut (or plant) can run and call themselves the “tea party candidate”. And how can you expect/depend on a GOPer to be loyal to what is trying to hard to not exist in an official form? Why should they risk themselves for an amorphic blob movement that can appear strong one day and then vanish a week later?
Oh, The Guardian is full of smug articles about how advanced Londoners are compared to the knuckle-draggers in the rest of the country.
I live the next county over from Ann Arbor and know all about smug self righteous marxists.
If England seals its borders, gets the hell out of the EU and starts standing up for its culture and values instead of kowtowing to its hoardes of Muslim invaders it just might have a future, and the United States might have at least one ally to help stand against the coming Islamic Republic of Europe.
It’s a long-shot, but this election gives me some hope.
Europe will not become Islamic—Germany will not let it happen. The UKIP is showing us the way. We need a Party like the UKIP here. One is being formed by the union of established 3rd Parties. The American Independent and Constutional Parties have merged in many states—they will be the form of the new reality. All it will take is someone with the Chops of a Sarah Palin to say the word and Liberty Party will be formed almost instanly. We need a Reagan or someone with his power to say the word. Are they out their? Yes. They will come forward and lead us to a new freedom.
The problem is this, they are fighting the MSM and the GOP and the Demonkrats. It takes time to defeat the established goose steppers. Those that have been in power don’t want to give up their way of life.

Yeah, Germany has a great track-record with regards to resisting tyrannical regimes.
I hope you are right about Europe not becoming Islamic, but from my point of view it’s simply a matter of biology and cultural confidence. The abortion/gay rights obsessed culture of Europe does not tend to promote childbearing, and the fertility rates of most Europeans are somewhere around 1.2 per couple. The Muslim immigrants to Europe have close to 4 children per couple.
In 2050 it’s estimated that there will be 100 million Muslims in Europe, and 100 million fewer native Europeans.
If these Muslim immigrants were assimilating into the Western cultural framework this might not be a big problem, but the undeniable fact is that Islam is insisting that Europe assimilate to it, and the worthless European technocrats are falling over themselves to surrender their societies.
There is a similar screed this week in the Canadian Maclean’s magazine about how Americans are “dumb” for supporting conservatives. Typical leftist snobbery all over the world.
The endless snickering at ordinary people coming from the mouths of the New Left makes me long for the bad old days of working-class leftists.

What we tea party needs to do is to start not a third party but take over a third party. We need to gather and work out how we want the party to be run (do we want to be a small government party or a big government party. I want smaller, especially eliminating the departments of education, health and transportation and I don’t care about people’s lifestyle. That’s what liberals care about). We need to get people from the private sector (business owners, farmers, teachers and even stay at home moms - not lawyers!!) to run.

Cameron is therefore brushing aside suggestions that the Tories align their MP candidate selection with UKIP. The Tories plainly calculate the odds as being that the next Commons general election will result in them securing an outright governing majority, or at least the largest party and able to dominate any ensuing coalition government.
There is much to dislike in Cameron's elitism, support for uncontrolled immigration, and betrayal of traditional conservative values. Yet that does not mean that a deserved comeuppance from the voters is imminent. Although UKIP has made stunning gains as a protest party, it has not yet developed into a potential governing party -- a transition that is harder to make than is commonly realized.
UKIP predates the Tea Party by years.
For myself, I shall pray, this Memorial Day weekend, not only for those still willing to stand for traditional America, but for all people in the civilized world, who are willing to stand up to preserve the traditional achievements of their respective nations--certainly including their traditional cultures.
It is the great fallacy of the crack-pot internationalists, that the only way to World Peace is by destroying the ethnic achievements of the earth's peoples. Nations proud of their ancestral achievements are far more likely to see the sense of dealing with other proud peoples on the basis of mutual respect, than are the compulsion driven internationalists--who do not respect their own heritages--likely to respect anyone else's.
The internationalist future should have ended at Babel, with other humanist absurdities. That so many educated people have bought into the humanist or collectivist/egalitarian fallacies, is a tragedy of immense proportions.
