A gunman in a black BMW opened fire on crowds of people Friday night in a Southern California seaside town near UC Santa Barbara, killing six people and injuring seven others in what investigators described as a "mass murder" rampage.
The gunman was later involved in at least one shootout with sheriff's deputies and died of a gunshot wound to the head, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said at a Saturday morning news conference. He could not confirm whether the gunshot was self-inflicted.
Seven victims were hospitalized and at least one of them had undergone surgery for life-threatening injuries, Brown said. Details regarding the other victims' conditions were not immediately available.

Mr Rodger's lawyer said his client believed "his child" to be the perpetrator, naming him as "Elliot".
Elliot Rodger's mother contacted the police after a YouTube video was posted a few weeks ago, the lawyer added.
I suppose shellacking his own shillelagh was completely out of the question.

Speculation on the Internet suggests Rodger may be the son of Hunger Games assistant director Peter Rodger and stepson of “Les Vraies Housewives” cast member Soumaya Akaaboune.
A chilling YouTube video appears to depict Rodger lamenting his life as a 22-year-old virgin and detailing his murderous intentions ahead of the shooting.
He attended a “Katy Perry private concert.”
Was at the “Hunger Games Premiere 2012.”
Traveled the world in business class.
…and London in a limo.
Boasted about his luxurious vehicles.
And took a flurry of selfies.

Apparently the killer had been diagnosed with Aspergers according to ABC news (http://abcnews.go.com/US/suspect-uc-santa-barbara-shooting-identified-family/story?id=23853918). If I recall, didn’t the Connecticut school killer also have Aspergers? Hmmmmm. If it was not the Connecticut kid, it was another recent mass killer.
AP says that the family has reported that there were disturbing videos, plural.
My question is why didn’t they seek help for this very disturbed young man. Just the look on the guys face should have been enough to scare the parents into seeking help.
I had this problem as a young man. It was because of the terrible guilt I felt with any sense of arousal in the company of women. I didn't know why until through, a determined process of autoregression, I found out that I had been molested as a four-year-old child. I now know when, how, his name, and that he similarly wrecked other kids in our neighborhood, some of whom are a mess to this day now 55 years later.
Only once that was out from underneath my internal "shielding" was I able to sustain a relationship. I am not saying that such is what happened to this young man, but I am saying that it is more common than we realize and, given the culture of his parentage, not at all unlikely.

Yep. Probably haven’t finished their investigation. After all, a video posted by the shooter explaining who he is, how he’s gonna do it and who he’s gonna do it to could just be a hoax, the “poor kid” is just a victim and someone put him up to the video and used his car to randomly kill women.
