Sinn Féin has emerged as the biggest party in Northern Ireland following the local government elections—but the DUP has claimed the greater number of council seats.

The republican party claimed 24.1% of all first preference votes with the DUP on 23.1%.

Both parties, however, saw their share of the vote slip with the DUP down by 4.1% and Sinn Féin marginally down by 0.7%. …

Would be interesting to see unification in our time; if it turned out to be under the doctrine of a constitutional republic, it would be awesome.

Unification under the EU already accomplished. It’s the unification sanctioned by Eamon de Valera, after all.

I very much doubt many people on FreeRepublic would like an Ireland, united or otherwise, governed by the radical leftists of Sinn Fein.

Possibly, with the UKIP, and Sinn Fein, that area of the world would start the global rejection of all this Mohammedan ‘kumbaya’ stuff!

Sinn Fein, having their own piece of ground, instead of the shadows, and not the outcast revolutionaries, but by ballots and not bullets, could be the change necessary.

You are correct.

If you’re looking to a hard-left group that set the pattern for abominations like the ANC/Umkhonto we Sizwe for “change”, then you are looking for the wrong kind of change.

No, I’m looking towards an ENTIRE Ireland, without a chunk still controlled by the English.

Sinn Fein and their IRA pals reject Islam?

But you’re OK with it being controlled by the Germans? Both islands are, right now.

Never mind that you seem oblivious to the fact that Sinn Féin is socialist.

What do you mean, now? The ‘royalty’ is still blood-tied to the Germans, and has been, before WW1!!

Have you ever considered, with the number of Americans with Irish descent, that it might be “a family affair”?

No such thing, no. Certainly not my family.

I had the misfortune of looking at FB posts from Irish “low-info voters” who gave SF their vote—and they are of one mind in terms of lusting for more handouts.

So then you are fine with both Ireland and Britain ruled by the Germans.

There has always been a long-distance connection between the Irish in Belfast, and ‘the States’.

I was not inquiring about YOUR family. Not my job.

I have known of these sort of affiliations, long before the Internet came around. Facebook has always been a joke, as has Twitter.

I had pen-and-ink, (yes juror jeanette, people used to actually write), writings from folks both here in America, and from both sides of the wall in Northern Ireland. The hatred of the local ‘Paddy’, by the bloodlined English goes way back.

That’s a cryptic post. What does that have to do with what Sinn Féin is, and the political ties via the European Union?

Just don't mention the war.

My post is only cryptic, if you didn’t get it.

The conflict in Northern Ireland goes before the 1920’s when snipers picked off one another, and a few Bobbies, across rooftops for fun, on a Sunday afternoon. Blood has been spilled by both Protestants and Irish Catholics, and there are families with ties with those ‘in the States’, that have kept things going through selective fundings, for that long, on both sides.

Sinn Fein just decided to come in out of the rain, and become legit, or at least a part of it. Now, gunrunning to other busybodies across the globe may have kept their pockets filled, but I suspect Sinn Fein will be using both the money, and the EU, for its true and only cause, separation from England, once and for all, now that Scotland has done that.

I look at the EU, as I look upon ‘The League of Nations’.
A lot of folks doing nothing, proposing a lot, and letting things get deeper in doo-doo.

The EU is nothing more than a shell game for royalists to come up with a new game plan to stay in power.

Belgium thinks it should be the political head, but has never had enough power, royally, to effect any change.

Rome thirsts to be the one and only religious seat, able to denounce any leader, of any country, and ‘excommunicate’ them, politically.

Germany still has the best military on the continent, and I count France for naught.

For most of Europe’s history, the words ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’ are imported ideas, never having been truly part of Europe’s psyche, with all the monarchies, and vassal lords still living. If Europe were to desire freedom, from their very guts, every royal, vassal lord, and lesser royal would have to be stripped of everything, andf then their life, to blot them out completely.
