Gun Picture Gets Boy In Trouble

A little boy is in trouble for a picture he drew as part of a school assignment.

Second grader Kody Smith was assigned to go outside, look at the clouds, and then use his imagination to draw what he saw.

"Draw a picture of what you see in the clouds from your imagination and that picture is a gun,” explained 8-year-old Kody.

Because it was a gun, the teacher at Talbott Elementary in Widefield called him into the office, and then filed a behavior report. His parents say that's too much.

“It hurts. It hurts that he was so scared for being penalized for his imagination,” said Kody’s father, Jeff Smith.

“He’s 8 years old. He was doing exactly what he was told to do for the assignment,” said Kody’s mother, Angel Rivers.

The report says Kody showed behavior that is disruptive to the entire learningcommunity. The parents were worried that this would be on his permanent school record. The Widefield School District says it will not be.

D-3 also sent us this statement: “Our primary responsibility as a school district is to ensure safety of all staff, students and community. We exercised an age-appropriate reaction to an incident. The student's education was never disrupted nor is this incident on the student's permanent record. Our response was in line with routine procedures focused on school safety.”

School safety was certainly put at risk by a child sketching a drawing of a cloud that he thought was shaped like a gun. There’s no doubt about that.

But what about the safety of the community, and in fact the safety of the region?

What if that cloud really WAS shaped like a gun?

Shouldn’t the Air Force have been standing by to immediately launch fighter planes to intercept and re-arrange that cloud?

How could this larger issue have been missed in this story? How could the school administrators themselves missed making that call?

And what about the nation as a whole? Shouldn’t we go on standby alert and organize neighborhood skywatch programs to alert the authorities BEFORE a cloud formation takes on one of the many possible unsafe shapes?

What if a cloud becomes shaped like an assault rifle? Has anyone in authority even CONSIDERED that extremely threatening possibility?

And this story does take place in Colorado Springs, of all places.

The stupid and ignorant don’t know enough to be truly foolish. For that you need an advanced degree.

“You mean the student was thinking freely instead of being an idiot who just accepted things as it is like the rest of his mush-brained classmates?”......

When you don’t fit into their mold, you become “disruptive” to their way of thinking. Consider where these so called educators were molded themselves, they no longer can think for themselves and they will be damned if some little kid gets away with using his/her imagination.

Interestingly enough, according to dear old Mom, it was second grade when I stopped being a happy child that was amazed with the world. I think that secretly, that age is when public schools try to break boys.

Ever ask yourself why we never used to have these kinds of problems? It’s not the inanimate objects that become mentally unbalanced.

Hey, how's that boycott coming along of Florida that Stevie Wonder promised in light of the Zimmerman verdict and SYG? After all the gun grabbers call it the GUNshine state. Please start the boycott already! It's too damn crowded down here.
