The Department of Education has officially charged “School of No” principal Marcella Sills with ripping off the city as well as her students.
Sills stands accused of “time/attendance misconduct, conflict-of-interest violations, defrauding the DOE of funds and negative notoriety,” DOE spokesman David Pena told The Post.
Because the DOE had granted her tenure, Sills is entitled to an administrative hearing on the charges. A trial date is pending.
The DOE yanked Sills from the school in February after Special Commissioner for Investigation Richard Condon found she had lied about her attendance while collecting full pay.
His probe followed Post reports that Sills routinely showed up late and often played hooky over the nine years she led PS 106. Staffers complained to DOE officials soon after she started, but nothing was done.
Sills will collect a $128,207 salary pending the trial.

Note that she is still employed by the school system and collecting her salary. Stories saying she was “going to be fired” cannot be said to be inaccurate, because the future is still ahead of us ...

Maybe the bribe to her to just be a figurehead that sits around at home doing next to nothing is the best way they could spend the money given the alternatives. She charms the liberals but does little harm (if also little good). Maybe it suggests a model for a principal-less school.
It's entirely possible that paying her to stay away from schools is the best outcome they could manage, its not being an option to nuke the system from space.
Funny how a lot of problems end up being self limiting.
Yep government bulge is a waste. But consider how worse things could be if those lazies got busy pushing hard for what they actually believe in.
All this with a very health dose of tongue in cheek! I would not recommend this for a viable long term paradigm. Getting slugs out of government and into private enterprise might turn them, if grumblingly, into non slugs that would increase the wealth of the country. If there was one word to describe this lady’s life, I wonder if it might be “bored.”

Theodore Dalrymple writes about the tedious lives of people who aren't very intelligent, have no education to speak of (though Marcella has been credentialed, of course), and have no real interests other than consumption.
No overarching goal.
Not even the concept that there could be such a thing. They don’t, Dalrymple observes, even have personal and familial survival as a focus in life, because the government hands them subsistence.
I spent a few weeks in the belly of the government beast.
I can appreciate how it looks like pot of jam, sinecure.
But having the incorrigible redneck building streak that I do, I pushed hard to git-r-done wherever I saw things that needed it.

I sympathize. I was a typist for the civil service for a while.
Well I’ve gone from that to what I hope will be a 1 year contract doing something very private enterprise-y. And will round out a sparse area in my resume. Programming an upgrade to a real-time computer system that controls a large aluminum production plant. Looks a little like a quiet version of Vulcan’s workshop, powered by electricity, many megawatts of it.
I hope it works out well for you and the employer. All of us can only do our best in these mixed-up times.
The beer trap, or ‘slug pub’, has to be the traditional home-made slug deterrent. Perhaps not the most effective methods of slug control but it’s certainly a lot of fun!

They probably tried to fire her only to discover this was easier said than done.
One of the huge issues for all levels of government is the amount of documentation required to fire somebody and the propensity of the courts and labor relations boards to find in favor of bad employees. My agency had a guy that was known for messing around with his issued gun. He finally had an "office pop" which the employee manual says you can immediately be terminated for. He was terminated and then went to court over it. He won his case 15 years later. Not only was he granted back pay, but they also paid a settlement, and gave him the maximum possible gain on his 401K as if he had moved around his funds perfectly timed with the market. He still didn't make it to retirement without getting fired for.......another AD with his gun in the office.
