President Barack Obama is promising U.S. forces in Afghanistan that America’s longest war will come to a close at the end of the year.

The president made a surprise visit Sunday to Bagram Air Field to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday weekend with troops.

He says the war is at a pivotal moment, with Afghan forces taking over primary responsibility for the security of their country. …

With Karzai turning his back by not meeting with him, I hope all our troops are taken out.

The US would be doing a humanitarian act by defoliating all of the poppy crops in Afghanistan — as we pull out.

Just get our troops the hell out of Afghanistan. The only thing we are accomplishing is getting our troops killed. One month after we leave, the tribes will be back to killing each other and their primitive lifestyle will continue.

Timing?

November elections...those are in November

Years' End...typically Late December.

They will campaign on this as though it were somehow a victory. (Think..."al queda is on the run" for talking pointal equivalence, here)

After we bug out? One suspects, and fears, that Afghanistan might experience the very reciprocal of victory.

Should Putin send the thank-you bouquet to the White House or would you prefer to have them sent somewhere else?

We really don’t have generals, do we.
If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight, even though the ruler forbid it; if fighting will not result is victory, then you must not fight, even at the ruler’s bidding.
— The Art Of War, 10:23
Obama had egg on his face when the positive results of the Fallujah surge (which he opposed as senator) were announced. Imagine a general that followed Sun Tzu’s maxim and did not let opportunities slip away, the least of which was to keep the ambassadors in Benghazi safe?

Churchill said to Chamberlain that when faced with a choice between war and dishonor, when one chooses dishonor then the result will still be war.

This guy destroyed any potential relationship with the people of Iraq, he simply was too arrogant and foolish to allow what was won by the blood of Americans to survive.

He's now going to do the same thing with Afghanistan, pull out, and declare himself the victor over the bodies of the dead.

No doubt the MSM will cheer him and continue to prop the fraud of frauds up.

On Memorial Day we honor the brave dead who helped keep us free. His being CIC might be the greatest slap in the face of history ever.

Shame on America.

And we are winning now? We went into Afghanistan because it was the stronghold of Al-Qaeda, the Al-Qaeda that brought down the Twin Towers. Our original goal was to punish the taliban/ Al-Qaeda (not to win a war) for killing 3000 Americans.

By the way, carpet bombing of German cities help win WWII.

Well if your goal is not to win a war, you won’t win it; simple as that. Sun Tzu had something to say about that too:
In war, then, let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns.
The Art Of War 2:19
We already have had these foes declare war on us. If they are not beaten, they will not stop. There was no need to make the war protracted, since we already knew who the enemy was and is.

FTR, we did have boots on the ground in Germany in addition to the carpet bombing, which did not prevent the need for the aforementioned boots.

The aforementioned boots came after the carpet bombing made life for the aforementioned boots on the ground a little easier.

Our original goal in Afghanistan was punishment not conquest.

That’s not a suitable rebuttal of an act of war.
If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it. If we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.

Fighting wars piecemeal has not worked since it was first tried after the end of WWII.

It is obvious we will never agree, nor will we change each others thoughts on the subject.

Nonetheless ... great discussion.

Take a look back further in the thread. Sun Tzu, the author of The Art Of War, was of the mind that generals should exercise autonomy in this sphere of foreign policy when the chief executive of the country fails in this regard. These days, our generals are more like politicians than fighting men.

I cannot tell if you are looking at things from a Biblical perspective here. One who does would recognize the curses coming on the USA for its moral depravity. There is only one help, that being from God; and if you're looking to mankind to fix the problems, take a look at Jeremiah 17:5.
