IMHO, there are three flavors of anti-gun politician:
1. Those who are truly ignorant of the facts, operate on gut feelings, and who, if exposed to the real statistics, and go to the range with responsible firearms owners can be swayed. This is the rarest type.
2. Those blinded by feelings and ideology, who truly believe, and have embraced as an article of faith, that the world will be a better place when guns are illegal. Regardless of the evidence shown them, they will continue to hold their views with the same tenacity sane people cling to the belief that 2+2=4. This is the most common type.
3. Those who know their legislation is all window dressing, and does not make for safer communities, but simply want a disarmed, defenseless, dependent populace.
