When Congress threw ethanol producers a gigantic bone by expanding the Renewable Fuel Standard through the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 by annually increasing the amount of ethanol that fuel refiners are required to blend into the nations gasoline supply, they blithely made the crucial assumption that Americans gasoline consumption would continue to increase indefinitely. Thanks to heightened fuel efficiency and slackened driving habits, however, Americans demand for gasoline has actually decreased, meaning that refiners would have to blend gasoline with ethanol well above the E10 level that is considered safe for most of the older cars and trucks on the road today in order to comply properly.

Maybe you should send your repairs request to that NASCAR mental midget Austin Dillon who had those horrible PSA sounding ads for the ethanol industry.

And of course you left out the most obvious reason that gas usage is down....PEOPLE DON”T HAVE JOBS TO DRIVE TO
A minor point. Ethanol isn’t blended with gasoline at the refinery. That happens when the tanker is loaded. The driver swipes a card for the particular customer and a computer selects the gasoline, ethanol and additive package to load.
Increased MPH standards and increased ethonol requirements (it is less efficient than gasoline), what could go wrong??
Thanks for the info. I know they used to store the e85 in an above ground fiberglass tank for the GSA vehicles at Kennedy Space Center. We got chastised several times for using “regular fuel” in our dual fuel GSA vehicles. We usually just stared at the asshat doing the chastising like he was an idiot. Which he was after his eco-indoctrination by the NASA bigs.
If I could remember enough chemistry I might illustrate this better but if the objective is to reduce Co2 (I guess) and you burn more fuel then don’t you somehow emit the same amounts of Co2? Probably more because you have to transport more liquid.
New barns, new tractors, new tools, new toys, inflated farm land values... yeah, agriculture is making out like bandits from a mandated and expensive law. Another gift from Georgie Boy. Give me a party like Ukip that just wants to destroy the opposition instead of make nice and play footsie with them.
“Entirely thanks to the federal governments mandate that people buy their product, the ethanol industry has been raking in record profits recently “
And just one other thing. Ethanol wrecks gasoline engines.
I’m wondering how much damage from loss of lubricity will be done by ultra ultra low sulfur diesel that is set to come out? ULSD jacked the price of diesel up over gasoline a few years ago when it came out and the cost of refining encouraged exports of regular diesel because it is easier and cheaper to refine... wait for it... prices will go up even more for little gain at all.
Assuming that the EPA/DOT actually could think that far ahead, the intent ALWAYS was to destroy the gasoline engine. Old or new.
Yeah, and I was watching Joe Bastardi talking about how much the corn crop is up, historically, over the past ten years. He thinks it is an example of how weather is not a factor but bioengineering is the reason. Actually it is the amount of acreage being planted in corn to fuel the ethonol fake boom.
And bioengineering and using so much fertilizer that it is more like hydroponics than just farming. The earth merely supports the roots now.
There is a guy here in Texas, NW of Houston, that plants a huge area every year and makes a crop about every third year. Tells me he either has a stupid banker, is making a lot of money or a big tax write off. Seems like it takes about a week to work ground and plant what looks like about 2,000 acres and another few days to harvest it. He uses huge tanks of liquid fertilizer. This isn’t corn country. It is dry most of the time.
Farming ditch to ditch.
I would never give them credit for thinking ahead on practical or useful matters. The mantra is another 10% of whatever is left. For most of the fools it is just job security to do the will of their ideologue masters. Like the drone kid I found by the side of the road with binoculars in a GSA vehicle. I asked what he was doing... counting cow paddies in my field. I went straight to the barn, got out the tractor, hooked up the chain harrow and went to work. 20’ and 8 to 10 mph can pulverize a lot of cow crap in a hurry.
Agree 100%,& there’s another ad bragging up ethanol that I hear regularly, but don’t know who it is doing it. Wish they had their “facts” crammed down their throats. No way does ethanol help much of anything, except to fatten the wallets of certain people. The higher percentage of ethanol, the less fuel mileage. As far as performance,I guess it allows an engine to run a little more spark advance;that’s about it,I think. Ethanol has proven problematic with some small engines, too. Ethanol’s time is now....time to leave the scene, that is.
We have 2 cars. It costs $60 to fill each one up. Yes we are driving less. We try to make a full tank last a month now.
