McDaniel touts Constitutional rights

Mississippi Sen. Chris McDaniel was the guest speaker for the Noon Lion's Club of Cleveland Friday.

He opened by using an analogy about Benjamin Franklin to explain his philosophy of the government.

"Benjamin Franklin walked outside of the Constitutional Convention and he was stopped by a lady on the street. The lady said, ‘What is it that serves you justice?’ He then said to her, ‘A republic if you can keep it,’" said McDaniel.

McDaniel regularly speaks to groups across Mississippi about the need for a return to the simple perfections of the Constitution.

His writings are published in a variety of legal, conservative and news publications, and he is a frequent guest commentator in the media on the subject of responsible public policy.

According to McDaniel, the American culture is being degraded which in turn has caused character to be degraded and the role of Americans in the government to be degraded.

"When this happens your constitutional rights are at risk and this is where we stand today. There are millions of Americans that have put a lot of strength into this planet. A new America is coming and the old America is passing," he added.

"It is not the place of government to solve any of our problems because it is 1,000 miles away. It is your place to solve your problems," continued McDaniel, who is now in his second term representing the 42nd district in Mississippi.

McDaniel is a strong proponent of limited government, free enterprise, civic participation, reduced tax rates, a strong national defense, states rights and a return to the original checks and balances of the Constitution.

He has been a vocal opponent of the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare,” and has sponsored numerous bills to prevent or limit its implementation in Mississippi.

In 2011, McDaniel, along with many other Republicans, voted in favor of a bill that would have created a state Health Benefit Exchange run by a private organization but later a state health exchange became viewed as a portal for Obamacare, and McDaniel sponsored a bill that would prohibit the state from planning, creating, participating in or enabling an exchange for health insurance under the ACA.

"We're borrowing 40 cents out of every dollar just to fund the federal government," the Ellisville Republican said. "Our country is in big trouble," said McDaniel.

McDaniel also said government officials work for citizens and not the other way around.

"When people realize that government works for us, not the other way around, then they will have a much more responsive government from both sides," he added.

McDaniel is running for U.S. Senator against senior Sen. Thad Cochran. The Mississippi primary will be held on June 3.

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

I can barely wait to vote for Chris McDaniel.

I am praying he defeats that corrupt Thad Cochran and his filthy slimebag campaign.

Reinstate the 17th Amendment. Prosecute the ones in office and take away their retirement if they are guilty. Balance the budget and decrease welfare.

I’m with you until the last part. Screw decreasing welfare. Get rid of it entirely.

McDaniel is a strong proponent of limited government

I think he means it - he took a principled stand against drug-war statism: http://openstates.org/ms/votes/MSV00005648/.

“states rights”

A dog whistle to the Left. They will think he just said he wants to reinstate negro slavery.
