Protesters hold anti-China placards while marching in an anti-China protest on a street in Hanoi May 11, 2014. Hundreds rallied on Sunday in Vietnam's biggest cities to denounce China's setting up of a giant oil rig in the South China Sea, a rare protest likely to prolong a tense standoff between the two communist neighbours.

Territorial tensions in Asia continue to rise.

The latest: A Chinese ship has reportedly sunk a Vietnamese boat, reports the Nikkei.

A Chinese vessel rammed and sank a Vietnamese fishing boat off the coast of Vietnam on Monday afternoon, the first sinking of a ship in the conflict over disputed waters in the South China Sea.

The state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper reported the incident online. Chinese and Vietnamese ships have clashed repeatedly since Beijing pushed ahead with the installation of an oil rig early this month in waters claimed by Hanoi.

The recent tensions have ignited major anti-China protests in Vietnam.

Protests in Vietnam started peacefully in response to China's decision to put an oil rig in disputed territory. Since then they have turned deadly.

Don’t be so sure. In their last go around, Charlie held his own. They are ancient enemies.

At first the better organized Vietnamese beat the snot out of the disorganized Chinese. But the Chinese have a lot of fodder and they turned the tide. Then they quit. And both went home. China now has an economic interest, oil. They won't be so likely to go home.

He’ll just write a sternly worded letter...Empty words for empty eyes and ears...

This country is well on its way to being in the same fishing boat...

And you know who is driving it...

I’m beginning to think so; this time the war will be about Empires being rebuilt.

Russia: Putin is eager to rebuild the former Russian Tsarist Empire, with himself as Emperor.

China: The Chinese are now eager to rebuild the former Chinese Empire and who will be Emperor is still debatable.

Meanwhile, which way the US will go is doubtful.

China can swallow up the whole country for all I care. Take Laos and Cambodia while they’re at it. They would probably welcome it.

“This is to be expected since the United States is in decline.”

I wouldn’t dismiss us. We still have a lot of junk in our trunk. We just need to have our hands cut loose from behind our backs.

I am hoping we will remember WWI and WWII and not be the first to jump in. Let everyone else fight.

Why can’t these liberal imbeciles understand that?

The Leftists understand it very well. Their liberal followers ust do what their told - and they're told not to think, for which they are grateful.

I’ve gotta side with Vietnam on this one. The Paracel Islands are within the 200 mile coastal waters that are recognized as the International Limits. The Chinese took the Northern Paracels some time back. These are the Southern Paracels. The whole group should belong to Vietnam. If there wasn’t oil there China wouldn’t be there.

I don’t know. North Korea sank a Japanese fishing boat on Hillary’s watch (and she said don’t rush to judgment as to the cause of the boat’s sinking...).

What difference does it make it this particular time anywhooo?

In 1979, China could have gone farther but decided it wasn’t worth the effort. They got their point across.

“China vs. Vietnam. I think China will win.”

Don’t be too sure. It has been a LONG time since China has had its army battle-tested. Assuming no nukes are used, it could be a replay of 1979, when Vietnam bloodied China’s nose pretty good!

The last time China had it’s butt kicked by Vietnam

The last time Chinese forces with few-to-no combat vets faced Vietnamese units with years of experience fighting the US, using Soviet supplied equipment. Now, neither has experienced vets still on active duty, and the Chinese have more modern equipment.
