TOWN OF PACIFIC, Wis. (AP) - Neighbors and gun lovers in southern Wisconsin are clashing over a makeshift shooting range.

Gun enthusiasts have been using the parking lot at the Swan Lake State Wildlife Area in the rural town of Pacific as a shooting range for years.

But neighbors in a nearby subdivision say they've had enough of shooters firing away almost every day from dawn to dusk, sending stray rounds into their neighborhood and leaving behind trash.

Make shift?

It has been used for years and is legal.

Not knowing the time-line on the construction of the houses makes it a little hard to figure out who is right and who is wrong.
BUT, I do sympathize with the homeowners about the trash. On Mondays I usually go to a box canyon near my home to shoot and pick up the brass the shooters leave behind. Leave behind along with the targets, old computers, ceiling fans, furniture, and garbage.
I usually manage to find a couple of hundred piece of brass of various caliber and pick up what trash I can fit on the 4 wheeler. But it is a losing battle.

Are shooters leaving their trash on the lawns of whining subdivision jackwads?
I would bet the whiners dump their McDodo cups on other folks lawn first.

The whole story sounds stupid.

Is it a gun range? or is it a Parking lot?

Most shooters are decent people. Pigs who have no respect piss me off too, but good on Wi for holding the balance.

Gun enthusiasts say the neighbors shouldn't have built their homes so close to the parking lot.

There must be some details missing.

I couldn’t find the “parking lot” next to any subdivision on Google earth...don’t even see any shooting stands or area for shooting marked out.

For many years, me and a few hunting friends would drive to the LBJ National Grasslands in North Central TX and take all of our guns. Usually we did this before dove, deer and duck seasons.

We had a favorite spot with a creek and pond 150 feet below and the back of a large earthen dam about 150 yards away. Took hand throwers and clay pigeons for practice with the shotguns. Set small targets on the dam and below along the creek and pond, just to plink, adjust scopes, etc., with .22s, .30-.30s, and handguns. .........All legal.

“They want the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to ban shooting on all public land in Columbia County”.....

If they banned shooting on all public lands in the county I live in, they might as well close it down completely. 1/3 of our entire county is considered “public land” (if you include the massive Federal lands).

NIMBYs on parade.

Subdivisions are just little pockets of tyranny, deliberately sown to make socialism and fascism palatable to the masses.
