TORONTO - One of two doctors accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in a hotel room says the little bit of sexual activity they had was consensual.
This was part of testimony delivered in a Toronto courtroom Monday by Ancaster doctor Amitabh Chauhan, who, along with Dr. Suganthan Kayilasanathan, 36, stands accused of slipping a drug into the drink of a then-23-year-old woman before assaulting her Feb. 12, 2011.
Chauhan, who at the time was a postgraduate of McMaster Universitys plastic surgery department, told the court he and the complainant had developed a correspondence where he would provide her with advice on her own path to the medical profession.
Chauhan, who also faces charges in connection with a similar incident with another woman in 2003, testified he felt some e-mail messages from the woman were flirtatious.
He testified he and Kayilasanathan, a Toronto-based family doctor, agreed to meet up in Toronto for a rare night of drinking, clubbing and socializing, and that he and the complainant whose identity is protected under a publication ban had talked about her coming along.
He said all three of them had a good amount to drink both earlier in the hotel room and later at a dance club. At one point, the complainant suggested she crash with them in the room, he said.
She suggested to me, Im going to crash here tonight, said Chauhan. She needed a place to stay. Shed been drinking, and she wanted to crash with us.
Chauhan said when the trio arrived back at the hotel room, he and the woman began slow dancing and kissing. He said he fell back on one of the rooms two beds and the complainant fell with him. He said they began rubbing each other and he performed oral sex on her.
But this, he insisted, is where it ended, as he was too tired and drunk to get an erection.
I was spent physically, I couldnt do it, he said. I wasnt able to have an erection. I was drunk, tired It just wasnt going to happen.
Chauhan said he fell asleep and, not seeing the woman there when he awoke later, text-messaged and called her to make sure she arrived home safely.
In April, Crown lawyers said evidence will show the mens bodily fluids including saliva were found on the womans genitals, underwear and bra.
Chauhan testified he isnt certain exactly what happened between the complainant and Kayilasanathan.

If she’s meeting him at a motel, it’s kinda like...duh....consenual
A friend of a friend of a friend of a ..... oh never mind ... it was me. . . . some centuries ago was accused and it was thrown out when my beard hairs were discovered.
What I can’t stand is they don’t post the woman’s photo, but they can post the mans photo. He’s innocent until proven guilty right (Even in Canada, eh)?
Woman can use this as a way to destroy a man’s character and reputation and the media will print his photo all day long. But not a single photo of the woman.
Did he do it? I’m not sure. But when he says some of sex was consensual it sounds like some of it wasn’t...so he kind of admits to part of the crime.
Pardon me Mam,are those the guys who tried to chew you?

Either her boyfriend found out or she thinks this is an easier way to get rich then finishing her degree.
I’m sure the boyfriend would be willing to split....and then split....
Just keep in mind that what you are hearing/reading, and the statements he is making, are likely crafted by his attorney. I’ve personally seen scumbags definitively harass women, and then pull a Clinton type defense. Yes, he could be innocent, but he could also be guilty as sin. Hopefully the court will find the truth.
I guess thats why we have courts. To try and figure out what really happened.
Ive also personally experienced women who will do and say anything to further themselves.

Really? Those are the only 2 possibilities you can imagine?
Based on the article yeah. She says she “trusted” him. What woman doesnt know something could happen going back to the room after drinking. Perhaps she liked the idea of two doctors? Until she sobered up anyway.
Interesting how we never hear about doctors Smith and Jones anymore. Only folks from far away places that one can’t even pronounce.
Did you read a different article? This one says that he claims all of the sex they had was consensual. Where are you getting that he claims only some of it was?
The fact that she trusted him rules out the possibility of rape? I’m not following that leap of logic.
I misread the “little bit” part. I thought he said a bit of the sex was consensual...meaning the rest of it wasn’t. My bad.
No of course not. However it is an indicator she went to the room willingly. It also raises the possibility that the sex was actually consensual.
Perhaps they drugged her and raped her. Seems likely they would do more than what they did if that was their intent.
Like I said before, this is why we have a court system.
“Perhaps she liked the idea of two doctors?”
She’s also a physician, and one of the docs was her mentor. Lies can certainly come from either sex in these situations, but the fact that this guy was married, in a mentor relationship with her, and thought it was OK to take her drinking and to a room with another guy tells you something about who this guy is. Plus, in my opinion, if that’s the way you conduct yourself in your personal life, with situational ethics, I don’t trust your ethics as a doctor.
Certainly the guys here are lowlifes, regardless of whether a rape occurred.
