How about bring back the draft to include women?
JewishWorldReview ^ | May 27, 2014 | By Alicia Colon

Last January 2013, then Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, ordered the Joint Chiefs of Staff to study the feasibility of opening all military jobs to women by 2016. This would include more than 200,000 jobs that make up the core of the ground-level combat force in the Army and the Marine Corps. Opponents of women in combat argue, rightly in my opinion, that the military's physical standards must not be compromised to expand access because our military's fighting effectiveness is at stake. Hauling 50 pounds of equipment while walking 20 miles is a standard that must not be demoted as it exemplifies routine combat challenges.

Meanwhile, Sage Santangelo, at 5'3", is fighting to become an infantry officer in the Marine Corps. At a petite 5'3'', Santangelo may not look like a combat fighter but the female second lieutenant has never let that hold her back from pursuing her dream of becoming an infantry officer in the Marine Corps so she said in an ABC News interview. I say-"So what?" I wish I was a foot taller so I'd be at my correct weight but that's not going to happen.

I think all women should be required to register for the draft now, just as all men are required to.

In Rostker v. Goldberg (1981), the plaintiffs argued that exempting women from the draft was unconstitutionally discriminatory. The Supreme Court decided that:
Justice William Rehnquist wrote "[t]he existence of the combat restrictions clearly indicates the basis for Congress' decision to exempt women from registration. The purpose of registration was to prepare for a draft of combat troops. Since women are excluded from combat, Congress concluded that they would not be needed in the event of a draft, and therefore decided not to register them."
Allowing women into combat roles nullifies that reasoning, and re-opens the issue to a constitutionality challenge.

After reading that a half dozen times it looks that is the author's wish (whose picture makes it look like she could lose a few pounds) and not the 5'3" woman who wants to be a Marine officer. Someone who was 5'3" with the proper weight of someone 6'3" would not be described as "petite".

We have overweight women describing themselves as "curvy". I respond "Victoria's Secret models are curvy. YOU are just fat."

Knowing these louts, they would probably include as an alternative to military service, that women could work in “pleasure services”, taking care of the ‘needs’ of bureaucrats and Obama’s “alternative army” of inner city ‘yoots’.

The purpose of registration was to prepare for a draft of combat troops.
I remember that crap decision. If it were true, then anyone drafted should have been forced into a combat MOS ... which never happened.
Also, drafting women would have provided/allowed more men to go into combat. Essentially, the same end result.

The draft is a socialist tool, what we have now is the best way to fill the ranks. Anyone that supports the draft is in fact a socialist. In the event of war that the people do not support the government would be unable to fill the ranks.

America was unable to fill the ranks, it is why we are forced to take females.

What percentage of female was your branch of service when you were in?

When you are having to accept 42 year old grandmothers into the military, and females, then you are having manpower problems.

Considering the state of things, I’m glad I didn’t sign up. The air force wanted me for some position doing IT work, jumping out of planes, cross training with the army, to set up forward operating bases. I’m glad I didn’t.

We are all glad that you never served, but in your case, you not only never enlisted, you were practically a Commando in theory, in your own mind.

Granted, not every able-bodied male is by nature a warrior - this requires a fierce and dedicated state of mind, not an attribute equally shared across all of humanity. Which is also a reason that a forced draft will not work. Unwilling or unmotivated soldiers are more a liability than asset for any army.

In WWII 93% of that Army was drafted, and the Marines draft in every major war.

When a war worth fighting appears, there will be no shortage of talented volunteers. Look what happened right after 9/11.

The reason we have so many females, is because we have had problems filling our small 9/11 military.

You are totally wrong, our population may be on it's way to doubling, and we may be spending a fortune per soldier and his benefits, but enlistments have not been great since 9/11, and the military has been exhausted and overstretched on these small wars, ever since.

Instead he sees it as a way to turn Americans against the military.

Were Americans anti-military between 1940 and 1973 when we had a continuous draft?

So that great bastion of State Rights, the Confederate States of America was also a socialist country? First time having heard Jefferson Davis or Robert E. Lee referred to as Socialists. Learn something new every day on the FR.
